An 8Q able to defend itself from those pesky little Lights running around him (usually piloted by me ^^) with a trio of Medium Pulse Lasers. For long range he can dish it out with 4 ER PPCs. Crit packed to the max.

Not a fan of ER PPCs or ghost heat for new players trying a chassis with no heat management skills Posted Image

Max engine (STD300), regular PPC in each side torso, and two LPL in the right arm. No crazy alpha, but it won't overheat and die when a new player alpha strikes a couple times either.

One of my oldest (but still favorite) builds, AWS-8T THUG LYFE

I'm also fond of this as a mid-range support build for the AWS-8V: SLUGGY

And of course, this AWS-8Q build is a classic. Been through multiple rebuilds over the years with the various ups and downs of PPC penalties and ghost heat, but still a solid performer: ION STORM

AWS-8T Sorbitol

You see this here? This is my Awesome 8T. It works like a charm. It's simple (two firing groups). It hits hard close in. It supports and deals out nice damage at long range. It runs pretty cool. It has enough ammo. It can endure the loss of a side torso.

I'm pretty sure a new player could hop into it and drive it around and have a grand old time being actually productive, provided they pay any attention to weapons ranges.

I think you want this Awesome.

Not sure its suitable as a champion since those are meant for newer players but nothing is more awesome than the AWS-8Q.

The good version of the 8Q, 4PPCs deadside: http://mwo.smurfy-ne...996944a583062d1

To ignore the dead side capability of the awesome is to ignore one of its few advantages. I'd throw on a few medium lasers I guess for the new players. It can fire all 4 PPCs at once and end up around 70% after ghost heat, not bad.

AWS-8Q

5x MLs, 2x PPCs, AMS, BAP, nearly full armor, max engine rating.

This is a variant of my personal favorite build for the 8Q, tweaked to improve heat efficiency, give new players free counter-ECM credit, and help the team out with AMS in this time of newfound LRM spam (I've seen them a ton with the advent of Polar Highlands).

Yeah its a lurm boat, but its got decent direct fire weapons and TAG for getting your own locks. IMO the best Awesome you can make right now due to the Awesome being not so awesome.

8R LRM boat, similar to what I run on my Timber Wolf

4 LRM 15. the mech has 15 tubes per side, so this matches; will have 2 volleys when fired, TIC in groups of 2. 11 tons of ammo = 33 shots per launcher.
TAG, for dealing with ECM and when you have to direct fire
2 medium lasers, for close range backup. not much, but it helps
AMS, cuz you don't want to get back what you dish out.
245 standard engine. Helps with survivability (No XL), with extra heat sink out of engine to help with crits (padding LRMs). This sucker is SLOW... but, it is an assault mech.

ammo is set up this way for 2 reasons

1) Ammo will be used from CT, RT, LT, LL, RL, in that order. I only put CASE in LT since it isn't likely you will loose a torso before firing 9 full volleys.
2) My RT tends to get cored before my left.

AWS-8R

This is a build that I use and I think that this is easy enough to handle for less experienced players.

Quad Artemis SRM6 gives great punch at close range, and the 2 Large Lasers enable you to hit things some distance away.

- Standard 300
- 17 Double Heatsinks

- 3x SRM6+Artemis -> 18 SRMS+Artemis is not fun to get hit by. It has 4 tons of ammo, but I've found this is often enough to make it through a match

- 3x MPL -> These have an effective range of 275 meters with the +25% energy range quirk, which allows it to synergize more easily with the SRMs. A -15% beam duration also makes it more forgiving to players with poor aim.

- 1x PPC -> Makes it possible to trade shots at range
