Awesome Champion Build

This beast took me through fire and blood to fifth place in the Chassis contest and has taken me through many 1k+ damage matches since without a single change. Despite the ammunition locations it is a dependable machine capable of soaking a serious beating when the need arises which if you are aware of your surroundings and move appropriately should not happen too often.
Two LRM-15's for long range support with 13 Tons of Ammunition to back them up gives 78 salvos. Enough ammo to bombard the enemy for more than 6 minutes.
Tag for more accurate LRM fire on anything that comes into direct line of sight and to punch through enemy ECM at range.
BAP (Beagle Active Probe) for faster locks, longer sensor range, quicker damage information, and cancellation of close range contact with ECM fields.
The two Large Pulse are for finishing off short to mid range targets quickly when directly engaged and for punishing the enemy light that comes after the usually poorly defended LRM mech all alone behind the main line.
Heat management is quite easy unless you lean into the LRMs and the Large Pulse at the same time even then you can get three salvos out of both systems before you hit the top of the heat scale.
Weapon groupings
1) 2x LRM-15
2) 2x Large Pulse
3) Tag

I'm a fan of the classic (ER)PPC builds:
AWS-8Q w/ 300STD, 19 x DHS, 4 x PPC (why waste tonnage for a single M/S-Laser? - great long range punch - good to learn heat scale )
AWS-9M w/ 360XL, 22 x DHS, 3 x ERPPC (flexible sniper)
AWS-9M w/ 340XL, 21 x DHS, BAP, Command Console, 3 x ERPPC (if you like more extras)

STD300, 4 PPCs, 18 DHs
=> plays very intuitive (left mouse for left torso PPCs / right mouse for right torso PPCs) and simple and has the signature weapons of the AWS
Other weapons (MLas) would be pointless, because you want to stay at mid-range all the time and the moment coordianted lights or brawlers jump at you, you are a goner anyway
AWS-8R
XL300, 4 LRM15A with 9t ammo, TAG, BAP
=> one of the best missile boats available imho, easily getting 1000+ damage on open maps
XL engine because you will stay behind anyway and need to keep up. The 2 MLas some guys put on this build are wasted because they wont safe you from anything while taking away 360 missles from your ammo/damage potential

AWS-8V (3x LRM15, 2x LPL, TAG, BAP, XL300)
Not meta, all things are useful and common equipment.

19 DPS and 450 Range on the 4x LPulse when moduled.
AWS-8T
This mech is also extremely easy to play.
Left arm on one weapon group
Right arm on one weapon group
Medium laser on the third weapon group
Fire 2 large pulse and possibly the medium laser, wait 1/2 a second and fire the other large pulse.
Torso twist, lose an arm 1st, them lose the torso on the same side 2nd. You are still a dangerous mech, Lose the 2nd arm and 2nd torso next, you are still an armored roadblock with a medum laser.

I've been using this build for at least a year and a half, if not longer. It has a long distance poke with the PPCs, and a short range punch with the LPLs. When an enemy gets in that mid range sweet spot it opens up a 42 point alpha that can both surprise and decimate the enemy.
It is the only Awesome I've been able to break 800 damage consistently. Heat is manageable and it covers most ranges even if you have to show most of the mech to do it.

5x MLs, 2x PPCs, AMS, BAP, nearly full armor, max engine rating.
This is a variant of my personal favorite build for the 8Q, tweaked to improve heat efficiency, give new players free counter-ECM credit, and help the team out with AMS in this time of newfound LRM spam (I've seen them a ton with the advent of Polar Highlands).
This is the first viable Awesome with AMS posted. Think of the Newbs people, think of the Newbs.

A brawler build for the masses
The build philosophes:
1) Maximum quirk usage
2) Synergy of effective range between the two weapon types
3) High durability by using a standard engine, AMS and near max armor
For your consideration and enjoyment.

It would be more traditional if they dropped the minimum range on the PPC's - Please, Russ or whoever makes this decision, remove the PPC minimum range. Revert it back to scaling damage, or change it to splash damage like the Clan ERPPC, but please fix this. The minimum range is killing PPC's and wrecking classic mechs like PPC Awesomes. Thanks.
Classic Champion 8Q variant: 3 PPC's, 1 medium laser in the head, and AMS + 1/2 ton of ammo. AMS is great for new players in particular. Traded out 1 heatsink and some armor off the shielding left arm from other similar proposals.
Awesome 8Q Champion proposal: Classic 3 PPC variant
New player friendly Champion 8Q: 3 Medium Pulse Lasers, 2 PPC's. A bit undergunned, I admit, but no ghost heat and still capable of defending itself under 90m. It also runs very cold for an Awesome, which will help new players avoid simply overheating and dying while trying to level their mechs.
Awesome 8Q Champion proposal 2: PPC's and Medium Pulse Lasers
Brawler Awesome 8V: 3 SRM 6 + Artemis, Standard 300, 2 Large Pulse Lasers, AMS. Brawling is not the Awesome's strength (but maybe after it gets redesigned...) but this is simple to use - 2 weapons groups - and packs a nasty punch up close. Both weapon types are also easy for new players to use.
Awesome 8V Champion proposal: Midrange support or brawler
Just some ideas

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...90ef70e25432f05 2ERPPCs in each arm--8T base
Now, since this is a developer forum, I suppose it is as good a place as any to make a request: Please create an Awesome variant with 1 energy hardpoint in each arm and side torso and 1 ecm hardpoint in the center torso. That will enable the creation of the AWS-9Q. You could also just create the AWS-9Q.

This one is my personal favorite, because the ERPPC in the right arm lets you shoot around corners better and it's the closest to the original 9Q.
