If you're looking for a solid all comer assault mech, look no further than the AWS-8T
This beauty features...
- 2 Kreuss PPCs (the signature weapon of the Awesome)
- 2 Irian Weapon Works V7 LRM-15s w/ Artemis IV FCS (to support your lance mates without any need to expose yourself to enemy fire)
- 3 Diverse Optics Type-18 Medium Lasers (for when things get up close and personal)
- 1 Surefire 444 Anti-Missile System (in case you are the recipient of return LRM fire)
- 1 Imstar Oracle Beagle Active Probe (to hasten lock-on times and root out annoying ECM mechs that might sneak up on you)
- 13 Double Heat Sink "Freezers"
- A highly reliable General Motors 250-rating engine (for that extra oomph over the tired old Pitban 240)
- 14.5 tons of Durallex Heavy armor plate
3 weapon groups can easily govern this mech.
- Group 1: 2 PPCs on chain fire
- Group 2: 3 Medium Lasers on group fire
- Group 3: 2 LRM-15s on group fire

AWS-8R
Easy to play but still a force to be reckoned with in the right hands. Swaps out the more often used SRM6 for SRM4s but therefore has room for 2 ERLL and 1 ML as backup. This gives the 8R good damage potential across all ranges. Paired with decent heat management and max engine rating for the chassis it is a good mech for new players and vertans alike. And I think this is what a champion should be.

I so wish the game had the flavor you've added here. Nice builds, too.

Adding the Awesome 9Q, which can carry ECM, would breathe some new life into this forgotten chassis. Yes, yes - people would probably just pilot the ECM version, much like the fate of the Cicada, but at least they'd be piloting an Awesome, which is more than can be said today.
