The time has come for lrm mechs to be nerfed as its spoiling any one to one battles. take Polar map as a example its a pure Lrm map which is a shame as it could be a great map but as it stands you have little change of a good brawl due to never getting close. ok you say use ECM and AMS but its no use against so many lrms boats i was on the map the other day and the opposing team had 4 lrm boats and just about killed all my team. This is not fun anymore.

Take AMS and an approporate module [AMS overload, or range]
Take ECM
Shutdown out of sight to break lock
Utilize hard cover
Utilize paths that keep you out of the LOS.
Keep an eye out for spotters.

Seriously, LRM's have, next to SSRM's, the most hard counters out of any weapons system in the game. If you're complaining about LRM's you're literally, just bad at dealing with the worst weapons system in the game.

Can we just have topics like this renamed "Help, I am bad with LRMs and should be taught how to stay out of the rain"?

Personally, I'm yet to have an issue with LRMs on that map, or any for that matter. (With the exception of those LRM turrets when we had those stupid things in Assault mode). As such, I have to disagree.

When the LRMS get heavy, take a kit fox for a spin.... One triple AMS kit fox with 8000 rounds of AMS will strip out most of the damage from 3 LRM boats. And LRMS are rare in Tier 1 but have seen a reasonable amount of them in Tier 2 matches.. especially during events. So one light mech can ruin 2-3 heavy / assaults primary damage. Paper vs Rock.....

I don't use LRMs at all.

LRMs brings a bit of diversity to the game and in many ways I think the current medium to heavy LRM use actually makes people better players.

Learn to use cover, watch out for UAVs, AMS can help, keep a look out for spotters, when you get a brief white flash and corresponding sound you know you have been spotted - DO SOMETHING!

Three important words: RADAR DEPRIVATION MODULE - extremely useful in combination of using cover

Yes - we have all been killed by LRMs at some point but if you are constantly being killed by them then look at your actions first.

For funnzies I pulled out the 3 AMS ECM Kitfox with AMS Overload Module for a few games yesterday (doesn't pay well but hey!). It was fun and even funnier when paired up with another player running the same build. Nothing got through and the Red team got rolled because they were too LRM heavy.

At least if some players are taking LRMs it reduces the laser spam.

Cheers!

I must disagree.
LRMs aren't a problem anymore, stupid high alphas are, as someone pointed out.
You need at least five dedicated lurmers to take down a pair of Timber Wolves and yet they will take almost all of the lurmers with then.

I know people don't want to hear it, but a good lrm boat can get around a lot of the counters. A good lrm boat being a player that knows how to use the equivalent of monkey poo flinging in a game where every other weapon system is better. I mean, seriously. I can whack you with my 8 med. laser blackjack for about 80 damage in the time it takes my first lrm salvo to hit while torso twisting and with the ability to break the engagement if I feel it necessary.

So yeah, I'm good in my trollrm mechs. About half as effective as I could be, but oh well. If people had any fear of the missiles they'd bring ams, but its too hard to change all those metamech loadouts so they come onto the forums to pray to the pgi masters to help them in their plight.

I'm sorry the dirty underhive mech touched you.

Oh, and Polar is NOT the worst for lrms. I say that as someone who does use the crud weapons. Alpine and Caustic are the easiest for lrms. I think more people are trying lrms again overall and we see it sometimes work there, but I've had more fun in Srm Timbies on Polar than anything else.

lol, as if you've never been caught with your pants down and LRM'd to death.

Sure, we all have.

Newsflash? We've all had our terribad moments, mad bad decisions, etc. Even the leetest of the leet has done something bad and stupid playing MWO, and I can promise you, it's been more than once.

But the difference between the BADs and the rest? We realize the issue was with a decision or choice we made, and don't blame a really weak weapon system.

The Reason BADs are BAD and stay BAD? They keep making those same BAD choices and expect the outcome to somehow magically change.

An example? A former teammate of mine only ran 300 engined Atlases. And every single match he would ignore cover, and just try to advance to brawling range. And almost every match, he'd get LRM'd to death while barely accomplishing anything. And then rage quit over how broken LRMs were.

Now...was the problem that LRMs were OP? Or that said pilot was making really bad choices and somehow expecting to not suffer consequences?

EVERY SINGLE MAP has ample cover, concealment, etc, as long as one has even a modicum of patience. even the dread Polar is not some Lrmgadeenon deathground...unless you are BAD and let it become such. Stay away from H9. Be smart, use the trenches to move (pro-tip: they also shield you from nasty ERLL, Gauss, PPCs, etc. Crazy, right?). Pay attention. You have NARC indicators in your cockpit. Stay with your ECM and AMS guys if possible. Pay better attention.

Heck, Polar has almost always devolved into mid to short range battles when I play it. I've died to or been seriously damaged by LRMs a handful of times over the last 6 months. And I ain't LEET, but I do get to play against them.

So sure, McGral has died to LRMs. I have. Heimdelight has. So what? None of us do with any frequency.... because most of us choose NOT to be BAD. If you are dying regularly to LRMs... don't look at LRM s to blame... look in the mirror... because the issue is you.

Usually if you are fresh and get killed by lrms you were playing badly.

This one time I was bored and stood in the LRM rain for almost 3 minutes before it finally managed to kill me.

^ Huge part of the reason why I laugh uncontrollably when people say LRMs are op. Even someone with a single ac2 is bound to kill you more quickly than that.

This. It takes a -lot- of time and pummeling to kill someone with LRMs alone- or an unholy number of missiles. That is, 100+ tubes firing your way, because the missile boats will literally blast every inch of your 'Mech, meaning you'll see dozens of points of damage wasted on non-vital hits.

LRMs are best for getting damage in situations you wouldn't otherwise. They are not even remotely best at putting damage where it kills efficiently. Prying someone with severe damage out of a spot without having to deal with a dying Parthian shot? Sure. Wearing down that light you can't hit easily? Sure. Softening up a target or finishing off a target or getting damage over terrain to help someone you couldn't possibly get to otherwise? Sure.

But it'll never be meta-powerful focused instant direct damage. That is always superior for the bread and butter of the game, broken as it is.

What ruins the game is when it take your entire team 5 minutes to destroy one mech while it stands there in front of everyone spotting for enemy lrms, allowing the enemy team to spam individual mechs. Or when teams do not check for UAV's/spotters/narc lights...

The sensible counter to LRM's is sensible teamplay and self improvement. Can guarantee this whole 'LRM's are OP' phase is largely restricted to pug matches where players do not work as a team...

I pug, I group drop and I can 100% guarantee the difference is pretty obvious...

Worth a thought...

Totally. Solkaine and me were bored last night so we dropped into group queue.

Called "uav d5 cnt reach" and within 2 seconds that thing was out of the sky.

Called "fsr g8 line" - and immediately 2 lights barreled that direction and eliminated him.

Think we lost 1 match, minimal communication but people actually wanted to do the things needed to support a chance at victory. Might actually end my days of solo drops.

I frequently close to brawling range on Polar highlands and retain cover for nearly all of my approach. and ironicly my targets are missile boats whenever I can get one. Polar Highlands is deceptive, there actually is tons of cover the illusion of wide open space is the snow blanketing the map.If Polar was textured like canyon it would actually be a lot like canyon network in play style (except you are not channeled by steep impassable walls) The points of cover are not obvious but they are present in abundance.

And on to my next point. One on one battles? why would you ever do this? this is a team oriented game the idea is for your team to defeat their team and if they are fighting one mech with two mechs they are doing it right. The LRM boat isn't ruining anything it's helping to win for the other team by applying supporting fire on viable targets.

So they had 4 LRM boats. That is 4 mechs that all have the exact same vulnerability, they are greatly deminished in close quarters fighting.

So what did your team have? Any light mechs? and fast mediums? Did anyone make an attempt to to harass the LRMs to keep them defensive?

I bet what happened instead was your team hunkered down in meager cover and tried to poke the enemy to death at long range...also known as doing exactally the wrong thing.

The correct course of action is to send your fast attack around to flank the LRMs once they are in possition to attack the rest of your team needs to be grouped up and ready for a concerted push. You want the fight to be a brawl because they have FOUR mechs that don't brawl. You do not need cover from LRMs if those mechs are being attacked in close quarters by your team's fast attack. All you need to do now is run over to the enemy and shoot them...a lot.

I think LRMs are in a good spot.

I would like to see the 6x lrm 5 go away though, because constantly firing lrms is stupid. Give all LRMs packs the same cooldown and reload as the rest of the LRMs, or give ghost heat on LRM 5s Posted Image

PGI need to encourage LRM players to carrying bigger stacks rather than constantly streaming out 5 packs (as hilarious as that is)

Don't forget same missile spread too!

HOW can I brawl at under 300 meters with LASER boats with their large lasers strip me and kill me at 300+ meters every time!

You know its true and it has to stop! All of those damn lasers with lasers over 300+ meters have got to go so I can brawl damnit!

Polar, is the only LRM 'problem' map.

The rest have plenty of cover.

It is? I never have any problems breaking locks on Polar, or any map....and we need more big, "open" maps like Polar.
