I think it's gone forever, Russ said average waiting time solo was 2minutes, less for group. Remember before voting it could be 5m+ and we were bitching on the forum. I don't think the Steamer would stick with the game if they had to wait though logically they should be numerous and not wait but i dont know that :/

Then I guess my "3 skirmish games and I'm done" rule stays put. Posted Image

You still vote.. you still get to save your vote... and boost your vote if you loose.. All that is happening is less people will get to boost vote on purpose.. Sounds great to me.

Exact same thing can be said of the mini game and if people voted that way the mini game didn't matter because it had zero effect on their votes. So they can cast their vote and not change it and it works exactly how they want.

Without the mini game people are not trying to gain multiplier by voting for lowest rated maps, which then get more votes as people switch. So we are going back to Frozen city or HPG for 90% of the games when they show up in the list, it's going to happen.

I'll gladly eat my words if I am wrong, but I am certain that we are not going to have the map variety we have now with the mini game.

I just realized my reply didnt make sense. If it's all random, the queue time isnt longer, i would rather have random game mode and maps than voting.

i was actually thinking about alternatives to voting to save time. voting throws on several seconds of artificial wait time that i would like to see go away.

perhaps a system where every player gets a top 4, and you can pick any 4 maps you want. you only set it up once. then when you start a game, the server looks at everyone's top four and gives each map a score based on the instance and position of each map for each player. maps with higher scores win. you might still stack multipliers for each player if one of their maps is not selected (this is cleared if you change your top 4 between games though). you end up with a system that is impossible to game.

There shouldn't be a voting system in the first place, especially if Russ is to be believed that Steam boosted the player count significantly.

i like the change. no more trolling. everyone should vote for the map and mode they want - once, no change and without seeing what others voted. multipliers should be kept though so if you keep getting something you dont vote for then eventually you may change the balance in your favor.

Guess I'm going to get bored of this game and stop playing again when half the maps drop off of my play history, just like when voting was put in the first time. I'll return when they change it back to appease all of us that quit from the boredom of playing the same overrated maps over and over.

It's too bad, otherwise the game was getting pretty fun.

hahahahaha

Here's the thing:
The people playing the mini game were the ones keeping the map rotation random. Yeah, I said that, random. mini game vote mongers didn;t actually care what map they dropped on, they wanted their precious multiplier. " I hate, hate, hate caustic valley....OOH LOOK NO ONE IS VOTING ON IT!!" and then others would also do this... pretty soon a bunch of false votes for a map they didn;t actually like and boom, Caustic Valley Assault!

Once that is removed, even if it is simply "can;t change a vote" and nothing else changes, people will indeed vote for where they want to go. Too bad history has shown people are boring window lickers and will only pick "da cold mapz for mah lazorz!" over and over. Sadly, these same people won;t realize the "heat advantage" they think they are enjoying is also the same advantage for everyone else.

We will be seeing more adjustments to this vote system about a month after this change goes in. So that's fine, I have a pulse laser boat Marauder hero and some wubshees I can master in that month.

Sigh! I want random map and game mode selection!

While I am totally with you on that, if the voting system simply _has_ to stay, this is the way to do it (why it hasn´t been done like that from the get-go, I´ll never understand)
People will vote for what they want to play.
The maps liked most by the majority will be played most and those who want the more "interesting" maps will build up their multiplier and get their wish from time to time too.

If you think about it, even with "random" map/mode selection, those selections would _have_ to be weighted towards what the majority wants to play (just imagine what the forums would look like after a full week of 40% Terra Therma, 40% Alpine and 20% of everything else Posted Image )

Why are half of the people here thinking multipliers are gone? They will stay. Did you all go hullabaloo over night?

Russ stated in the Town Hall an estimated date, I think the March Patch is the target for this change.

Before we had the voting map selection was completely random and the maps were equally weighted with the exception of the twin maps (Forrest Colony/FC Snow, Frozen City/FCN, River City/RCN) each having halved weighting. Over time it did equal out to a roughly equal distribution of map occurrences. But sometimes you would get streaks of good or bad maps, just the nature of the random selection.

Anyone else bummed out that we'll no longer be able to stack multipliers to the wall by voting for the lowest percentage?

Personally I like voting for the least favorite, 12 times, then picking Terra Therma with my 30% in one shot 12x multiplier. Not because I'm interested in trolling but because I genuinely enjoy that map and I worry that I'll see it less and less if I can't abuse the system.

One vote, no changing votes and no seeing the percentage of the votes until after you vote

Picking map first then picking game mode

I'm a sad panda

People farming multipliers like you are doing is exactly what brought it to PGI's attention.

It's a vote, you will vote and when you don't win you will get a multiplier.

Then, eventually, you can put that to use to get whatever map you want.

Instead of the game-of-chicken multiplier farming with no intention to actually vote on that particular match.

After seeing Frozen City or HPG for ~10 times, then yes your multiplier works. It's the people who want to play on the winning map and selecting something else to save/boost their vote that cause the map variety we have now.

For me, multiple matches of FC/FCN/HPG gets boring real fast. May as well bring map optimized mechs since 8/10 maps are going to be cold, brawl friendly choices, with the occasional Tourmaline/Bog when the first three are not in the list.
