So what is the difference between "ACH-PRIME(S)" and "ACH-PRIME".

Why would one work for a specific part of an event (PAYBACK II CHALLENGE - ACH-PRIME(S)) and not the other?

Thank you.

As everyone else above me said, or just simply, 'I spent real money to have special mechs.'

The [S] designation the OP is asking about means the Mechs were purchased from the Steam Store as the Steam Packs. These are sold as sets of paired Clan and IS Mechs.

As follows:

C = Champion | +30% XP Bonus

F = Founders | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Not currently obtainable)

G = Gold | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Not currently obtainable)

H = Hero | +30% C-Bill Bonus

I = Invasion | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Clan Invasion Mech Pack reward)

L = Loyalty | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Post-purchase max tier Mech Pack appreciation reward)

O = Origins | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Origins Mech Pack reward)

P = Phoenix | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Not currently obtainable)

R = Resistance | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Resistance Mech Pack reward)

S = Special (Unique Sale Variant/Event Purchase Reward) | +30% C-Bill Bonus (Steam, Urbanmech, Marauder, Rifleman, etc Packs)

Sarah's 'Mech is classified as an 'S' variant, the original 'S' variant in point of fact, has +30% XP bonus but is not available at this time due to it being a fundraiser donation reward.

The (S) denotes that it's a Special loadout of the base mech. Usually from a Steam bundle pack or a bonus for buying a Collector's pack for newly released mechs. Think of it the same way (C)=Champion, or ®=Resistance Pack. The Cheetah Prime(S) and a normal Cheetah Prime are essentially the same thing just that the Steam version started off with a better and more newb friendly weapon loadout.

This event was designed to reward(Payback) people who payed money for recently released mech packs. That's why the (S) versions are valid for this event and not the base line C-Bill version.

Sarah's Jenner was a 'unique event sale'. As are the Steam packs. Both are classified under 'S' and any 'Mech carrying this designation come with a unique equipment loadout on a normal chassis with a +30% C-Bill boost.

Sarah's Jenner has +30% to xp (raised from 10%) instead of cbills.

There are 2 uses of the marking currently. There is a Jenner marked S called the 'Sarah's Jenner' that was created for a charity fundraiser. The other is S for Steam, denoting the mechs being sold in the 'performance packs' through Steam DLC. 1 of each weight class with 2 mechs per pack, 1 IS and 1 Clan, and a few other bonuses included.

I believe the idea for the event was so that it gave a chance for the steam players who joined in and purchased the packs through Steam to be included specially, just as anyone who bought the mech packs (IIC or Unseens) were included like usual with the website purchased content, which most or at least many Steam users wouldn't normally access.

'S' stands for serious. It is a serious mech for a serious match.
