Hey,
I had a game crash the other day while waiting in the lobby and totally warped my resolution on both my desk top and and ingame. I went back and rechecked them all and they are both on recommended 1280/1024. My ingame graphics make my mechs appear "squashed" almost dwarfish looking lol. I figured it was my drivers so I reinstalled my video card drivers and directX to be sure, no changes. Ran diagnostics on my video cards and both are shown to be working properly.
After giving up for a bit I updated to Windows10 to see if it would reset anything and nothing changed either in game or on the desktop. After another round of installing/unistalling drivers when I attempted to login into MWO client I got a "Failed to create Direct3d Device" error and the game closes. I ran the MWO repair tool and it did not change anything there.
My specs are:
Windows 10 Home version 1511
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz/ 2.40GHz
Installed RAM: 8.00 GB
System: 64-Bit/x64-based processor
Video: x2 Nvidia SLI GTX 8800 GS
Any help would be appreciated.

Directx10/11/12 are not backward compatible. XP/Vista/7/8/10 come with the base direct9c but does not have the last version of dx9c.
Make sure to do a full windows update of both critical and recommended. It may take a few reboots.

Download and install both Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Packages, x86 AND 64x. Some players had to uninstall them then re-install them to successfully install them and to get MWO working.

Also download and install dotNet4 for both x86/x64.
On windows update, make sure ya have selected recommended downloads also.

grrr MS keeps changing links. Listed below is the web install version. Small initial download then it downloads the additional files. Version 9.29.1974 - older versions do not auto update to the last version.

This is the same version but the entire package. Good if updating multiple machines, or if you believe a directx 9c file is corrupted, it will install new files.

And even though MWO will run in DX11, it still uses some of the dx9c files.

I am having the same issue. It only started after I downloaded the Feb 16, 2016, patch. The error is a Fatal Error and says the return status DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED and the reason is the D3D Device Hung.
I have checked all the drivers and all are good to go. I have Directx11, and cannot install directx9 or the C++ 2010s.
It appears to me that the error came from MWO, cuz I have not installed anything in the last week. So I am generally at a loss on how to resolve this on my end.

I'm having a similar problem, RavenFlightt. After the 2/16/16 patch I'm getting the error "Failed Creating the Direct3D device". I never even see a login screen. dxdiag shows everything is working properly. I'm running Windows 10.

Windows 10 update 2/09/16. Other player in other games are having issues after the Feb update/reboot.
Are all of you running Nvidia GPU? If so, disable Geforce experience.
