If we push to the next update of Cryengine and actually get support from Crytek, PGI never touches the render pipeline again, and you get better frames on low with DX11 even at the low end than you do with DX9 at high graphics right now. Its a seriously big deal.
Isn't that all going to depend on how PGI wrote that render pipeline and how much of PGI's other custom code is tightly coupled to it?

nothing is free. theres always a catch.
Well, your upgrade is free until June this year. And, afterwards, you can use your W8.1 key to activate Windows 10 fresh installs (on that machine)
It is to M$' benefit if as many people as possible standardize, that is why it is free. Also that Cortana uses you as a tasty data-mine. But, that is no problem, if you download and run my aforementioned magic script

There is also the fact that they use your computer to distribute updates if you haven't been bothered to turn that "feature" off.

i got an older 8.1 rig that pretty much only hosts my 3d printer and hard drive backups. i might try it on that one and see what im looking at.

Once again back to my point of taking 5 minutes when you get a brand new OS, and learning the basics. It isn't a "hidden feature", it is out in the open and easy to disable (5 clicks from desktop by my count

And, for those that will use it, is also another feature that my script disables

When you do the free upgrade it pretty much migrates everything over for you. I didn't even have to reinstall anything. That being said, I know people who's computers have effectively exploded because of it, so I don't know. Maybe its better to be safe than sorry

Either way, Windows 10 gives you dx12 support, but if you are on 7 or 8 you can use dx11 no problem.

It doesn't even go that far, it is anonymous. So it would be more like "oh, advertising ID # 1244357235833832423432 is lookinga t guitars again, we should show more music store ads to him. He also had 6 problems with his AMD gpu driver which Windows has logged and sent us the bug report for so one day (when hell freezes over) our techs can maybe find a fix."
But, and I agree with this sentiment... I have no interest in being a mine for corporate data. So... I close the valve as much as I can.
And I certainly don't want to be a peer for hosting MS Windows updates for other people!

5 clicks farther than the vast majority of users will bother to go.

you guys are worse than my drug dealer i swear.

i got a few things that probibly wont migrate over. mostly programming projects.
besides the point is moot. i totally expect their engine update to not even start until after my next hardware build. and il need a new 10 license anyway. thats what i get for being cheap and getting an oem license for this build.

I assume nobody cares, and if I ask this, I'm likely asking for insults and "please update your OS" outcries as well, but let's give it a shot nonetheless: Even with the 32-bit client having been dropped altogether, the Steam version of the game still works on XP x64. The non-Steam one doesn't, since its launcher has been rewritten using .Net 4.5, but yeah.
So, the Direct3D 9.0c renderer is the last thing that keeps the game alive on the x86_64 version of XP (and Server 2003).
I'd like to ask: Are there any plans to drop the Direct3D 9.0c renderer completely? And if yes, is there a schedule for that?
Just asking as MWO is the last "modern" 3D game I'm playing (HW: Westmere Hexcore, GTX Titan Black), and as soon as the D3D9 renderer gets dropped, I'd look into building an actual, proper gaming machine for it.
Would just be good to know when/if that's going to happen.
Thanks!
