I make sure I'm always standing even further back than those back line snipers when I know all is lost (about 3min in). Seeing them catch 3 mechs worth of return fire for just whatever he can shoot back with is therapeutic.

That narrow pass on forest colony? Many a time I've seen 2 full lances crowd around the entrance because the lead mech saw someone 500m out and wants to reverse. One day, I'll drop an arty strike in the middle of that bunch and may teach some a lesson. Posted Image

Use it to drop your PSR - try to earn as low match score, as possible.

When you're on Polar and someone says 'meet up in I9!'

There's like 3 spots on the map with cover. If you're not burning metal and nuclear fire to haul balls to one of them then you're a team full of idiots who deserve the brutal annihilation you will receive.

Oh and 'stay in the trenches!'

No. For ***** sake no. Get out of the trenches. You can crest a ridge and shoot DOWN into the trenches. The guys in the trenches are the guys getting brutally and mercilessly violated by the UAV above them they can't shoot and the guys humping a ridge to rain death down on them. Get out of the gods damned trenches.

Oh and for ***** sake sweet baby jebus on a pogo stick with a basket full of Easter Eggs stay out of that huge open expanse in the middle of the map. What is wrong with you people that you gravitate there like moths to a flame? I realize most people don't actually turn away when being shot but that doesn't mean a daylight charge across the minefield into an enemy firing line is the best tactical approach.

I love Polar.

I hate the players most games I play it.

When someone test-fires their weapons at the start of the match into my back. I've been tk'd a few times by unlucky friendly XL checks. Even better when they then wonder aloud why I don't have more rear armour, tell me I'm a noob for not distributing it half-and-half front and rear......

When friendly trial dire wolf keeps asking why his gauss rifles aren't firing. When people bring trial adders. Trial executioner. Trial anything to cw. When the last surviving catapult pilot asks why his missiles keep blowing up in the sky. When a cheetah tries to snipe enemies on polar with cersml at 1900m. When any mech that can mount ECM dosent have it...

There's lots of them but my salt levels are getting critical now

There are certain clues clearly visible to all in PUG matches...

1. In the 10 seconds after the match starts, I see lots of players turning on the spot, not moving forward with any confidence or conviction. Then I know I dropped with the derp team again.

2. When I see the Light lance that dropped on the far right head off further away from the rest of the team, instead of regrouping. Then I know I dropped with the derp team again.

3. When the guy in the Stalker says "I brought LRMs, please hold your locks" and other two guys in the Battlemaster and awesome both say "Me too!". Then I know I dropped with the derp team again.

4. When we're leaving the spawn, and lots of guys start shooting their lasers in the air every 10 seconds, as if firing their weapons is some kind of novel experience. Then I know I dropped with the derp team again.

5. When we're leaving the spawn, and I see everyone has their noobcams out, and they start talking about their favourite camo colours. Then I know I dropped with the derp team again.

6. When I'm holding the line at the front of the battle, tanking and firing in equal proportion, to take down the most serious enemy threat. Then I glance down at my minimap and notice the four guys that were there fighting with me are now 200 meters behind me, and still walking backwards. Then I know I dropped with the derp team again.

7. When I see the UAV sitting over my team's head, but I can't shoot it myself, and I tell the team repeatedly that it's there, but still they sit there sucking down LRMs without shooting it down. Then I know I dropped with the derp team again.

The above is the story of my playing day today. 10 losses, 2 wins. GGclose. Carry harder.

Oddly enough a disco is not one for me. Seen too many matches were a team has overcome the loss of one or even two players. But when I see a lance of anything but lights break off to "do their thing" it is usually not a good sign.

Me and 2 teammates are fighting four enemy 'mechs. It is a hard fought battle but we manage to kill three without losing a guy on our side and the other red dorrito runs off. We must be winning aff!? Three of us took on four of them and won, surely the rest of the team fended off the numerically inferior enemy aff!?

A quick glance at the scoreboard revels we are losing 6-3.

****. Lost this one.

Typically I notice it when my team dont have 100t's and my team decides to play the hide & poke which is just stupid since we dont have the tonnage to play that style. Or it's when my team doesnt support the assaults or we get bad assault pilots. Usually its over fast though.

Either way, once I see this happening, I try to find an easy kill and go for it!

I swear to god, Tier 2 is the new underhive. The last week has been a nightmare. Really struggling to be a nice person on the internet, and failing hard.

You've managed to find me and kill me in several games despite how badly either team was doing... so it can't be all bad :P

These days? Hitting the button to launch a game... no idea what's been going on the past few weeks, but it seems Tier 3 has suddenly been filled with people who can't play the game. Horrible builds, insane anti-team work, total lack of coordination, and so on. It's been horrible, and I wish I could say what's changed, but I can't think of anything specific. Sure, I'm leveling some new mechs, but I cannot accept the notion that me playing mechs that are not fully leveled somehow makes my team lose at least 2 out of 3 games all of a sudden in the past few weeks; I'm not that important.

Stupid bad luck adds to this: just got out of a game with 2 disconnects and 1 suicide on my team... again, never happens to the red team... ugh... this losing streak stinks, and payouts for losses are so bad, regardless of performance, it's almost not worth playing. Hell, it's taking 4+ games to get the stupid 2XP bonus for the day for a given mech; a month ago, it was a flip of coin to win or lose, with a slight edge on winning based on my account stats. Now, it's loss after loss after loss... no idea why.

Whenever the rest of the team blindly follows the light lance who are just trying to flank into unfavorable positions. Lights can make it in and out of sticky situations! The rest of you can't! Stop following the light lance!!! lol

The whole "tiers as exp bars" really doesn't do much for filtering matches at this point.

And considering the last game I know I was in T1sville, I knew I was in trouble when the Raven next to me sidled up to my position.

And started firing his LRM rack. I died first (because hey, I was actually hitting things) and brought him up on spectate.

Raven man had a single LRM 15. Nothing else. And was firing without locks. Given one guy on the other side was B33f, that means our missile-lobbing genius was at least T3.

At that point, I knew unequivocally that the MM has skunked us to lose the match. Forget "matchmaking".

Even better is when you are that Locust (or other light) and half the enemy team is chasing you, yet you keep seeing messages about teammates dying.

When I'm in a harasser light and 3 or more enemies are able to break off and chase me without my team taking advantage of it, I know it's going to be a bad game.

Pretty much all of these.

Honorable mention:

Unfortunately, there are noobs that are not even worthy of that title.

Last night, the 11 of us (dead) were watching our last guy in a HBK-4P. The guy missed 5 alphas in a row against a half dead heavy mech standing less than 50m away. The chat was filled with WTF. I think he was using keyboard for everything...

Or that one time our last Stalker with 4x15LRM decides to shoot approaching enemies without using lock. Total dmg in game = 23.

This gets me, when it's the last guy on your team, and he's not overmatched (so maybe 2:1 or 3:1, but not 11:1), but refuses to hit R, and does right before he dies so everyone can see that both legs were dark dark red but he's been hitting CT for forty-five seconds.

Or when it's at the end of a close match, and it's still 3v3, but one of yours is a LRMBoat without any ammo but 90% armor left...and he stands back 500m from the fight. So you tell him, get in there, body block, harrass, ram, scare them, confuse them! But he skirts the battle--can't ruin that KDR! Then the other two blues die and the remaining reds come for him and he dies a coward's death. What did you expect was going to happen?

Yes. Insulting people as leadership...just like they Army taught me at West Point.

Except the opposite of that.

My favorite part of the game--the insults streaming from the first guy who died :)

True. It is strange, though... even with the theory that one team has to win, even if they are all poor players, my recent losing streak has just been odd. I find no good reason for it; my play hasn't gotten noticeably worse from what I can tell - and even if it did, I doubt victory or defeat hinges mostly on my actions with everyone else on my team basically being NPC's. And yet the drop in team quality and build quality has been very noticeable. I can only assume the enemy team has it almost as bad; in random outcomes, you can still have long strings of a single outcome, such as flipping a coin and getting heads 10 times in a row. I wish I knew if it was something specific that could be fixed, but it is annoying as of late. Oh, well.
