I got really excited when they announced to implement a solaris mode (yea, finally), but it got me questioning. Would like to hear your ideas/concerns with this.

So as far as I got it, solaris will be added as an additional gamemode to quickmatch/CW. I personally don't think it's good to divide the players further.

Wouldn't it be enough to have solaris and CW, with solaris replacing the quickmatch?

I don't know what the difference between quick play and Solaris will be, but it can't be much.
As far as I'm concerned we've been playing Solaris for 5 years.

Hell when solaris comes out I might only do solaris and say F TO THE U CW because of the 'elite' units that PGI cow tails to.

maybe they can bring back the checkbox dropdown about game modes you want to play when you hit launch, except the options could now be "quick play", "community warfare" and "solaris".

Too easy, right?

CW is to the Inner Sphere what Siege of Shanghai (BF4) is to Shanghai, namely, a (very) poor representation.

P.S. And probably a bad map at that.

PGI actually hasn't said anything about how Solaris as as 'mode' will be implemented yet. If I remember right they said something about it being next year before anything like that came about.

What they did announce was the introduction of a few test maps which will only be available in the private lobby. I find it likely that they might be considering having Solaris limited to private matches for the near future as well.

It would be interesting to see it included as an extra game mode for quick play, though. I doubt it'd be very suited for replacing the entirety of quick play, although much of it feels like an arena anyway...

First of all, with the speed of features being added and hopes being dashed during the long, drawn out, over extended, glacial and slow paced wait times for said features, no long time player gets excited about any announcements of additional features, missing game play elements or the like.

This added to the fiasco that was "Transverse" that players were hoping was somehow related to "MechWarrior Online" in some way, but instead turned out to be completely unrelated and not worth a second thought. Its better not to even think about the prospect of "Solaris" being added at any point in the near, or distant future.

However, if a player were to be foolhardy enough to walk in front of the quantum freight train that is the expected wait time for such a feature, and speculate on if Solaris and the Galaxy map would be "enough", then yes, I think it would be, if both were done right, eventually.

Most of the players won't play Solaris anyhow once they realize its ranked and they will have to actually play against skilled players.

Don't really foresee any issues.

Arena combat on Solaris would be awesome. Neon lights, crowds cheering, announcers announcing, and all that. I am sure some would try and put a negative spin on it somehow though.

I personally cannot wait until 2020 when it is finally added to MechWarrior Online. :)

I hope it has an opt in/ opt out option as Ive no interest in Solaris.

As a not very skilled casual player I need 11 other meat shields around me to not get instagibbed.

Sounds like the motto of every random player on my team.

Or, as they usually do, sit behind a big rock and look at each other, going: "You first!" "No, you first!".
And then someone charges and no one follows (thus he dies), then the remaining players all look at each other, going: "Okay, who's next?"

I mean, if you would simply choose

- max 12 - 4, 8 and 12 mech per team match
. max 8 - 4, 8 mech per team match
- max 4 ...

to get a 'quick play' and on the other hand got: faction play,
wouldn't that be enough?

From what Russ was saying about it, it gave the impression of 'ranked mode' where you set up a pre-made team and play as that team for the Solaris matches. However he also mentioned 1v1s, so we'll see what it all entails at a later date. It sounds like it will turn out to be a 'competitive quick play' sort of thing but there's no sort of adamant information on it other than we're getting the 'unfinished' duel maps in private lobbies to check out/mess around.

Solaris in/of itself will be pretty cool, but it's going to basically end up being another CW/group queue thing - something designed for competitive play that will be all but abandoned or destroyed because the overwhelming majority of the player base doesn't want to actually engage in competitive play.

Me to. I was hoping it would be a more fun part of the game, where as faction play would be the more sim and consequence based part of the game. Losing a faction capital would mean all players for that faction, lose their faction as an example. Maybe steady credits to be made on the faction map, certain decals and things like that.

Anyone can only guess where its all going and take comments made about upcoming game play elements and try connect the dots.

Solaris sounds good, so does faction play. In concept.

I've been suggesting such a thing too.

I reckon it would be more formalized. And I say getting rid of that filler-turned-main-feature is a good thing.

Well, in a 24+ last-man-standing Solaris mode, you're going to have 23 meat shields. Posted Image

If there is no 24? mech Free-for-all mode, then it isn't Solaris and I won't be interested, and thus my wallet will stay closed.

If its free-for-all mode, then you likely won't have 12 players focus firing on you at once. They will be covering their own assets after all.

Then again, I know a couple people around here, that may find themselves on the wrong end of a 23 mech focus fire.......
