Most expensive colors: 1,000 (that I could see anyway; I own most colors already)
So, one pattern and three colors is 1,250+3,000=4,250MC
At 250 MC per dollar (the best exchange rate), that would cost US$17. That would be A$23.70. You could put that one pattern on all four of that 'Mech and use the three colors on any 'Mech.
If you wanted four different expensive patterns with three different expensive colors each that would be 5,000MC+12,000MC=17,000MC.
At 250MC per dollar, that would be US$68. Which makes it A$94.81. You could use all four of those patterns on any of that 'Mech, and you could use all twelve colors on any 'Mech.

Still around $100 to put a colour on 4 Mechs is too much.

Yeah I have to completely agree on this. I'm in finance and have BETA tested for quite a few games. The USD ratio to what you get is WAY over priced in this MMO. Especially for the limited content (12 vs. 12, or 12 (X3) vs. 12 (X3)). That's your only option right now with "new" content on its way. Plain and simple, spending $40 bucks so a person's "mech" can be a different color is pretty ridiculous. But they must have a reason for doing it or they wouldn't leave the price points this high? In any case, more people would purchase chassis and add-ons if they lowered the ratio of MCs to USD. A new color should be $1 to $2 USD as an account unlock with bundled colors as another option (i.e. all shades of red, all colors, etc.).
On a side note, I just got the email about the Kodiak mech and went to check out the early purchase for it and it's $40 USD. That's way too much for a "chassis" when you look at other games and the price point for mounts, add-ons and level buffs, etc. They'd get more purchases if they would come down and be inline with the economy and people's net discretionary incomes...

You guys realize that colours are in fact unlocked for the account?
As you can read in the last footnote for the faction content of the origins packages.

If you don't trust this please puchase one Basic colour ingame for 1.250.000 C-Bills and see yourself.
depending on the colours you want you should realy look onto the origin packages.
if you take the Orion IIC package for $60 you can choose 3 faction contents and geht 18 colours.
additionaly to your 9 new mechs incl mech-bay and 30 days premium...
and about the Kodiak...
You can buy the standard pack for $20 which contains 3 mechs incl mech-bay and 30 days premium.
The collector pack you mentioned for $40 contains 4 mechs incl mech-bay 60 days premium and one of those mechs has a permanent +30% C-Bill boost if you play with it.
To compare: 30 days premium alone cost you $12. And if you order within the early adopter phase you get even more stuff.
I think the pricing is quite fair. Maybe not in all areas, but if you watch out for bundles like those I mentioned you can get quite much for your money.

Everything in MWO is overpriced. The question is whether you want to pay it or play a different game where you get more for less money.
The only thing you should be spending money for ever in this game is mech bays. At least those are permanent and they ease the pain of grinding.

So getting really bad deals because you bought colors separately instead of buying a whole pack should get you refunded some large amount?

It's like you get yourself some fastfood and buy everything separate.
But halfway through your meal you realize you could have had the same for half the money if you had ordered the menue.
No one is gonna get you a refund for your decision to order everything separate...
And regarding the $500 goldplated mechs...
It's the same as you asume no one would ever buy the gold plated porsche.
Little question: Have you ever been in Dubai?
Some people just don't care how much something costs or are okay with the pricetag...
Fortunately this is a each to their own decision.
No one forces you to spend money on this game...

But like pilot modules do you need to buy more?

Colours in Mechlab are MC only. I have not seen in the store any colours for sale yet.

No, not like the modules. Just buy the color you want once and you can apply it on all mechs as often you want.
If you have the color tab in the mechlab open in the top right, just below the pattern / colors / decals buttons there is a drop down.
Look there for basic, those 4 colors are purchasable via C-Bills. (it shows 5 but you already own this fancy stock green

Not sure if you are aware, but the IIC are clan mechs, they would be usable for you in CW .
But maybe you are just on of those uptight canister born and consider them inferrior second-line equipment

That's a lie. PGI's commando team came for me in the night and made me input CC details at gunpoint.

You would've had a fair point if you'd made the analogy more similar. Maybe about how all the separate ingredients are in full print on the menu, and in very tiny fine print at the very bottom, the entire meal for a much lesser price.
Anyway, your analogy is absolutely perfect for one thing. If a place had a menu like that, I wouldn't eat there because I know I'm getting screwed, as that will be my assumption, given that I don't carry around slide rules to check pricing at restaurants. I'll just keep ordering free bread til they shut down. Thanks for pointing out the issue with MWO pricing with that delectable strawman.
