For $20 you get useless standard mechs, basically making the minimum $35 instead of $20

What?

The KDK-3 is by far the standout mech of the pack imo, and you get that for the initial $20. so much so that i dont think ill play the other variants enough for it to be worth spending any more... Or are you only concerned about the 30% Cbill bonus (useless = no bonus?). Yeah if you want a Cbill bonus variant you have to spend $35 minimum, but so what? In most of the non Omni mech packs the Cbill variant is not the best variant ingame, so it doesnt get used anyway...

We can finally remake this from MW2 Mercs (ending)

*Edit: wow I find it very similar to the current state of MWO.. Must watch.

Somewhat true... but Thunderbolt 9SE(S) and Madcat C(S) are exceptions.

I'm hoping the Spirit Bear is the best variant.

It wont be. The KDK-3 will. Spirit Bear is a novelty super fast Atlas-S which is much more squishy.

Just finished reading thread. Interesting points and views. A good read. My only concern was the fellow that sold...all his clan mechs that he paid with...real money....wow.... to me thats what you call wasted investment. Understandably yes.. clans have been nerfed...but they are still playable. They still make a mess of your enemies.
If you dont like the current patch mechanics. Keep your bought mechs. Jesus. Real money aint easy to come by. The clans are getting buffed next patch. May not be their original state. But a buff is a buff yea?
And as for a comment made to the kodiak being a sluggish 100t brawler??? How...is 64kph in stock loadout and godmode xl400 engine sluggish? I...just dont understand how that gets even put down on paper. An atlas sacrifices so much to get this fast.....ah well...ppl dont really read and take in infomation well these days i guess.

I see no reason to shell out additional cash for Kodiaks 4, and 5 - unless they and the spirit bear form some new giant gundam, that would be sweet.

Seriously, I think the good stuff is already in Kodiaks 1-3, though I oscillate between being very much in favor of the Spirit Bear and not wanting any part of it as wasted money. It really feels to me like a mech that will have no inbetween on launch - either crazy OP or miserably DoA.

That was pretty much my thought. You can get plenty of the best Kodiak action for $35. I do wish the KDK-3 had missiles, but it does do quad ballistics, so I could do a Clan version of my Mauler with 4 chest high UAC/5s. Could be fun.

Yeah, just wait for C-Bills. Neither of them do anything really that the base 3 don't do just as well or better. Definitely waiting for C-Bills on those two, and probs not even then - why buy a KDK-4 when i could just buy a second KDK-3 for example.. well, i guess the KDK-4 does have 2 more critslots than any of the others, due to no hand actuators, but thats a pretty minor point.

It can't do that Mauler, but the K4 is probably the one you want. I personally think that the K4 is generally worse than either the K3 or K1, though. It's sort of the generalist that fits between them and so isn't really as good as either. I can really only think of 1 build that the K4 might do better, and that's some variation on 2 x UAC/10 on which you also feel like you need to carry SRMs.

If you don't need the missiles you want the K3. If you don't need exactly 2 x cannons you want the K1 or the K3.

The K5 is basically useless. 11E just isn't usable, or at least not any more so than the 9E on the K1. (Seriously, how many 13E Dire Wolves to you see out and about?)

Take a look here, the KDK-3 is the one with 4 ballistics mounts in the STs. Not sure why I couldn't do 4 UAC/5s with that. The 4 only has 2 mounts. I'm entirely confused by your post.

Sorry, I misread your post. I thought you were looking to do quad UAC/5 plus missiles. Which, obviously, none of the Kodiaks can do.

I was mostly agreeing with you (and Murphy) that the K4 and K5 seem mostly superfluous. There may be a corner case type of build for the K4 that might make it desireable, but that's about it.
