Some Pgi Praise

I thought I might post some praise on the off chance that someone from PGI might read it.
I am liking PGIs current direction.
When I took a break from MWO at the beginning of 2015 it was because I didn’t really have much to look forward to. I had pretty much bought everything that was on offer and burnt out/ became bored of the same old, same old.
Since I have returned to the game (just prior to the PSR intro) we have new maps, new CW, new balance, Wave 3, Res 2, Origins 2 plus some things Im probably forgetting. With all the new bits of bobs that are on the way in 2016 I think/ hope it’s going to be a good year.
What has really kept my interest is the way the way they are now releasing smaller Mech packs. Under PGIs new way it means that each month I get to look forward to a new Mech, some premium time, a couple of free modules, 6.5mill cBills and the cockpit items (I personally consider the cockpit items to be useless junk and never use any of it). This has had the effect of keeping playing the game because I always have something to look forward to.
I only ever buy the standard pack and Hero add on as 4 new Mech variants are enough for me – I don’t want the extra cockpit items or cBill variant that the collectors pack offers and I have plenty of back premium time.
Im lucky that the current exchange rate quite favourable for me, I am paying £24 for my goodies. That is about the same price as of 8 pints of beer/ cider. I’ll get one night of fun out of 8 pints of cider (followed by a morning of hangover misery), but I’ll get many weeks of fun out of a new mech pack.
From my perspective (and I know not everyone shares my rose tinted view) keep up the good work PGI
Thank you

I took the same kind of break, and had the same kind of feelings. The game's development feels exciting again.

Basically what adamts01 said, it all sounds good, but worry about it when it's actually in front of you to play.
Also, they don't read the forum, primary mode of communication to the devs is via twitter or support email.

IMO everything is worse, UI is just bad, the pass on the maps is horrible, maps are murky filled with obstacles cluttered lots of other things just make them bad, shows in map selection, nobody wants to pick them.
Balance is worse, some of those super IS mechs while most clan mechs are just bad, new mech releases have just made older mechs obsolete rather than adding variety.
CW? well look at its state, look at the map and population, 90% of pop doesnt even bothers with it.
Match making?, im a player with thousands of hours, dozens of mastered mechs, dozens modules, hundreds millions C bills, im constantly seeing people with little experience, poor mechs even trials,. just newbs, poor poor match making.
One new map, nothing at all new really, but lots of new mechs.
Ya still see PGI saying new this new that, fix this, that, but as in the old days SooN..
CW still beta? after how long?
I could go on but...
To me coming back has Not been a positive experience, but thats me everyone to their own.

The clans are apparently unplayable in CW.
The IS are apparently unplayable in CW.
Clanmechs have either too little space for the big weapons they can carry or are to slow when they can carry the big weapons.
The IS mechs are not able to freely place any weapon where they want.
OK... yes it is pretty balanced (despite what some players are saying).
PGI may be guilty of overbalancing parts of the game (ie. too many chances at once which act cumulatively), but at least they are attempting to balance things while other departments are adding new mechs or maps (as well as updating existing maps). All in all, the game is looking better all the time.
What many old players also seem to miss, is that if anything is older than 1 month, players tend to forget that they are new or it was different before as well as forgetting the bad parts of why things were changed (HexaPPC Mechs before Ghost heat and Poptarts before the JJ changes for example).
The only real request I would have at PGI, is to open up map creations to the community just to see what they can do, even if the final version would have to be vetted and checked by PGI staff members before being uploaded to the game servers.

I feel the same way about most of those things. Things are more polished than they were after my year break but it's the exact same game with the same problems. Except for match making, every one of those complaints is getting addressed in the next patch though. However, quality of matches is the worst offender in my opinion. The sides may be balanced as far as skill, but as a tier 1 I shouldn't be getting stuck with so many noobs in my drops. It's just stupid how bad it has become. I can't drop solo que unless I'm pretty drunk, and have to have at least a couple beers to play in group que. I put this game back on the shelf till this next big patch. I just hope they make PSR not trend upward and tighten up MM a lot.

I didn't have electricity for almost a year, so when I finally got an internet connection I was glued to my laptop and made tier 1 in a week. It's pretty easy to move up quickly, at least to tier 3, and that's the problem. Too many people are a higher tier than they should be. It took about 3 weeks till Steam noobs started messing up tier 1 games, and now it's just embarrasingly bad there.

As it is, they made a great free to play game that isn't pay to win and has the best online combat out there. Mechwarrior Online deserves a lot of credit for that.
They are even working on something more than BLUE vrs RED TDM, something most of the other 200 shooter games, aside from Planetside, hasn't even begun to try.
PGI doesn't get enough credit on these forums for all of this so I don't mind making replies about it twice in 2 days in the last few years.
I have a lot of complaints about what is missing from the game though. Made a few replies about that.

Im nowhere near tier5 mate, also my friend (we play games daily) came back same time after same break, when we play in group (just the 2 of us) get pitted against alot of tier 1 players and tier 5s in the same game.

PGI made a LOT of steps in the right direction this year - Urbanmech, Mauler, Warhammer, Rifleman, Archer and now the Kodiak - these are ALL 'Mechs that the players were BEGGING for. I have also seen a lot more community involvement - Public Test Servers, Player-Built Champion Mechs, even asking for feedback on Package Releases. We've seen initiatives shot down in the forums, and PGI listened and backpedaled. The new maps, for all their faults, are great*. The redone maps are fun as well*. There's room to imrpove the Tutorial, but it's a step in the right direction. Now they are working on CW Phase 3, which sounds like it will be a large add-on to what we currently have. they are going to try and split the solo and group queues in CW (again, something the community has been asking for). Also, they are coding better AI and looking into some PvE game modes, possibly a campaign. This wasn't even a twinkle in Russ' eye last year.
No matter how you feel, you have to acknowledge they are trying. Personally, I think they are doing a pretty good job. And I see this game getting a little better each quarter this year. Will it be the game I hope it becomes? Probably not. But I will still play it and still throw some $$$ PGI's way to let them know I appreciate wheat they are doing.
My wish list for 2016: player created content. I am not asking for player built Mechs (although there are some fine modelers in this community), but maps, camos, decals. PGI could release a SDK and existing textures and let the community see what they can do. Maybe a map contest, where 1 map is chosen and a prize is associated t the creator.
*I like the maps, thought I know not everyone does. There are just my opinions.

What... strange... thing you say? You no speak Forum!
But rly I agree I have more confidence in the company lately. Game's not where I'd like it yet, but at least it seems like they are moving in the right direction.

If your impressed by them adding mechs that is exactly where they want your loyalty because shills and whales buy those so they can continue to make the game minimally viable. Again honestly look at the game and you can't claim anything is for the better outside of minor things that don't hook players into needing or wanting to login everyday to accomplish something. There still is no macro part of the game that is worthy of any praise.
If your impressed buy redundant and then pointless mechs after power creep while playing team death match over and over then by all means praise them but please don't act like there has been any real progress in actual meaningful content.
