Probably wise. I have a Cougar and its just way too stiff for something like MWO. Its just meant for a flight sim

can you still keymap it?
I figure my FF is out of the running, because of the extra drivers and stuff, but I also still have my trusty Precision Pro, w/USB converter, and figure it should work fine from what I have readd on Microsofts own site, just not sure If I will be able to configure the keys to my trusty settings, or have to learn a new key map.

I have to admit that I've had to canablize the electronics of other, older sticks to keep this baby running. After 10 years of MW4 something was bound to wear out. I just hope MWO supports this stick. I don't really care about the force feedback aspect. I just want to use Old Bessy in the new game!
Exactly. Fortunately, they also made a non force feedback version, which I also own. And I think anyone who knocks the stick is one of the mouse crowd, or has never deigned to try a sub$300 dollar stick. Never have found one that had smoother response, centering and reticle drifting than a Sidewinder, or that felt as good in the hand. I've messed with a lot of Saiteks, Thrustmasters and the sort, and truth to tell, they all feel cheap and clunky in my hand. The Sidewinder for me was like a good woman, or a Colt 45, just feels PERFECT in my hand.
And being a totally different beast than an FPS, I would seriously be shocked if the mouse and keyboard gave any real advantage over a quality stick. On Halo or Unreal, I am all for that combo, but Mechwarrior is much more like a SIM than an FPS.

So all you folks who are saying that the FF2 is working great for you, then consider yourselves very lucky. Becuase the website for Win7 and Vista, does not show any of the Sidewinder FF joysticks to be compatible. I myself have a Sidewinder FF gen1, and connected to a SB LIVE 24bit, and Win7 doesn't like the joystick.
If you still have XP...setup a dual boot, and get busy! You can still work those FF joysticks 100% using it!

I can only hope someone will hack together some drivers for Windows 7, or that the game's designers slipped in some extra support in the code somehow.

MW4 recognized it. But the buttons didn't work after I plugged it up. I had to track down the software online and install it. Run the test. All the buttons worked then. The I relaunched the game as was golden.
I do hope it will work with MWO. Because I can't get another joystick right now. But if not I'll just have to learn to keyboard and mouse it.
Dude, you can't just do that. List what you did and give us links. I only have the precision pro 2 and so I need the software...

That's a lie. I have been using a Sidewinder Precision Pro since WIndows 7 came out.

So as long as I can map the buttons for MW:O (or if it simply defaults to base MW4 settings) I am g2g.

Hands down this is the best joystick ever made and is still better than 80% of the sticks out there

The fix if your having a limp stick problem. Use the registry hack one.

I liked it so much, I hunted down a spare on Ebay. Question is... has anyone finally put out one that works as easily and well YET?!?!?! That Artemis Razer looks like a contender, except I have not gotten the most glowing reviews for Artemis. Saiteks (at least every one I have found, I have 3) don't hold a candle to Old Faithful.
Anyone know if the old Sidewinder is compatible with MW:O?
They are working on a fix for it in MWO. I have one as well.

I would not worry too much, for instance, my Sidewinder Precision Pro (with original USB adapter) is working perfectly on the Windows 8 64bit final release preview version (since it comes with a general calibration/button testing tool) and the only problem associated with MS (non-FF) Sidewinder joysticks is that not all keys/buttons might be supported in MWO by the developers. Ideally, a control/steering sensitivity calibration function would be a nice implementation, too, although I am sure that pretty much everyone can get used to the absence of such as function after a while and can also get used to it not being there.
I sincerely hope that IGP/Piranha Games will get started with supporting all MS Sidewinder joystick functions for MWO soon (in particular, full key/button support) as these controllers have always been the reference for MechWarrior games.
