I sold mine on ebay and bought a saitEk x52 pro.... Been playing mw4 to get brushed up and it is a great stick. Almost bought the worthog stick, but at $450 i figured i would wait and see how much the razor setup ends up costing

I have a USB sidewinder FF 2. It works great (including force feedback) in win 7, 64bit, on MW4: mercs. (was playing earlier today)

Just need to figure out how to make it work in beta :)

Well FF2 works in Vista 64 but I wouldn't say it works fine. I do have centering tension but I preferred the tension max'd. Since MS hasn't supported these sticks since XP then I guess we are out of luck. I seriously doubt MWO will have any support for this if MS hasn't supported it in years. I'm wondering if its possible to find the registry entry for this and edit the centering tension from there.

Probably wise. I have a Cougar and its just way too stiff for something like MWO. Its just meant for a flight sim

I have a MS Sidewinder Pro with serial connection, that i have a serial to USB converter for, and it works great on my Win 7 64 bit system. Have no idea how it will, or will not, work in MWO though, will have to wait and see.

can you still keymap it?

I figure my FF is out of the running, because of the extra drivers and stuff, but I also still have my trusty Precision Pro, w/USB converter, and figure it should work fine from what I have readd on Microsofts own site, just not sure If I will be able to configure the keys to my trusty settings, or have to learn a new key map.

My Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 works great under Windows 7 64-bit. I bought it specifically for MW4 when it came out and it is the only stick I've used since. I think it is one of the best joysticks I've ever owned. I don't use the force feedback because it simply gets in the way of competitive play. Even with the main power off for the force feedback it is hands down the smoothest feeling joystick I've ever had. Just move the stick to the left or right and you'll know what I mean. No spring action crud there.

I have to admit that I've had to canablize the electronics of other, older sticks to keep this baby running. After 10 years of MW4 something was bound to wear out. I just hope MWO supports this stick. I don't really care about the force feedback aspect. I just want to use Old Bessy in the new game!

Exactly. Fortunately, they also made a non force feedback version, which I also own. And I think anyone who knocks the stick is one of the mouse crowd, or has never deigned to try a sub$300 dollar stick. Never have found one that had smoother response, centering and reticle drifting than a Sidewinder, or that felt as good in the hand. I've messed with a lot of Saiteks, Thrustmasters and the sort, and truth to tell, they all feel cheap and clunky in my hand. The Sidewinder for me was like a good woman, or a Colt 45, just feels PERFECT in my hand.

And being a totally different beast than an FPS, I would seriously be shocked if the mouse and keyboard gave any real advantage over a quality stick. On Halo or Unreal, I am all for that combo, but Mechwarrior is much more like a SIM than an FPS.

Keep in mind everyone....That by Miscrosofts own admissions, the Sidewinder series of gaming gear that was produced before Vista came out, is not supported or compatible with Vista or Win7 or Win8 in anyway. Unless the item in question was produced When Vista was released or after, then that item will never get a driver by them. There was a set of third party drivers released by some guy through the Creative Labs forums, but it only worked for the 32-bit versions of windows.

So all you folks who are saying that the FF2 is working great for you, then consider yourselves very lucky. Becuase the website for Win7 and Vista, does not show any of the Sidewinder FF joysticks to be compatible. I myself have a Sidewinder FF gen1, and connected to a SB LIVE 24bit, and Win7 doesn't like the joystick.

If you still have XP...setup a dual boot, and get busy! You can still work those FF joysticks 100% using it!

Working with my FF2 some more. Vista 64 loads up the right drivers, recognizes it, all the buttons work. It even has a calibration routine. Nothing to increase the tension though. Maybe I'm imagining that the tension used to go up higher. Will keep fidding with it. I'm amazed my stick hasn't broke though with all the mileage its seen.

I pulled my Sidewinder Force Feedback 2 joystick out of storage today. USB version, plugged it and the power cable in. Windows 7 Professional edition, 64-bit, recognized the USB device and installed generic drivers. The joystick is loose at first, but as I play with it, the gyros kick in and it stiffens up nicely. I only hope that torso-twisting will be possible with the joystick's generic drivers, as that was the main reason behind keeping the stick.

I can only hope someone will hack together some drivers for Windows 7, or that the game's designers slipped in some extra support in the code somehow.

I loved the force feedback when I had it back in the day. It died from heavy used. So I replaced it with it's baby brother sidewinder precision 2 joystick. I actually have 2. So I also dusted them off to play MW:4 mercs. And my W764 pro recognizes it. It works. But I did have to do some tinkering.

MW4 recognized it. But the buttons didn't work after I plugged it up. I had to track down the software online and install it. Run the test. All the buttons worked then. The I relaunched the game as was golden.

I do hope it will work with MWO. Because I can't get another joystick right now. But if not I'll just have to learn to keyboard and mouse it.

Dude, you can't just do that. List what you did and give us links. I only have the precision pro 2 and so I need the software...

I just want it to work with the 360 controller. I think that it is perfect for MW:O. Right thumbstick for torso, left thumbstick for movement. You should be able to get all the funtions needed out of the comtroller

Is everything USB1 (like the sidewinder) compatible with USB 2 or 3? I have heard for some people, that JS works with Win OS7 and other say it does not.

Similarly My Sidewinder FF (USB) works perfectly in Windows 7. I use it for piloting helicopters in Arma 2. And for MW4.

I used to own those as well and I can say they don't work if you are using windows 7. They should work with computers still using XP.

That's a lie. I have been using a Sidewinder Precision Pro since WIndows 7 came out.

well, dunno how it'll work for MW:O, since I ain't in the BETA (yet.... Still haven't gotten the Internet hooked back up), but what I do know is that I just finished building my computer today (thanks Vulpes!) and installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64, plugged in my Sidewinder Precision Pro and VIOLA! It loaded all the drivers and everything was groovy... til Mechwarrior 3 crashed, lol. I think I need some patches for that.

So as long as I can map the buttons for MW:O (or if it simply defaults to base MW4 settings) I am g2g.

So has anyone had luck with SW2 Force FB with the Beta? With default settings I only have a portion of controls and with it customize nothing will work. Any thoughts or fixes out or coming?

Hands down this is the best joystick ever made and is still better than 80% of the sticks out there

OK, so I have used the olod Microsoft Sidewinder joysticks since Mechwarrior 2. When MW3 came out, there still wasn't a better joystick on the market. MW$, same drill.... except shortly thereafter, Microsoft kills the Sidewinder.

I liked it so much, I hunted down a spare on Ebay. Question is... has anyone finally put out one that works as easily and well YET?!?!?! That Artemis Razer looks like a contender, except I have not gotten the most glowing reviews for Artemis. Saiteks (at least every one I have found, I have 3) don't hold a candle to Old Faithful.

Anyone know if the old Sidewinder is compatible with MW:O?

They are working on a fix for it in MWO. I have one as well.

Hi there,

I would not worry too much, for instance, my Sidewinder Precision Pro (with original USB adapter) is working perfectly on the Windows 8 64bit final release preview version (since it comes with a general calibration/button testing tool) and the only problem associated with MS (non-FF) Sidewinder joysticks is that not all keys/buttons might be supported in MWO by the developers. Ideally, a control/steering sensitivity calibration function would be a nice implementation, too, although I am sure that pretty much everyone can get used to the absence of such as function after a while and can also get used to it not being there.

I sincerely hope that IGP/Piranha Games will get started with supporting all MS Sidewinder joystick functions for MWO soon (in particular, full key/button support) as these controllers have always been the reference for MechWarrior games.
