For those with the usb version, I don't have anything for you, but for those with the original FFP, and for those not scared of a soldering iron there is an adapter available:
http://code.google.c.../adapt-ffb-joy/
I've built one of these myself and helped the developer beta test the firmware. I can affirm that force feedback does work in Windows 7 64 bit. I tried out IL2 with it as well as MW4. Does take some know-how though, as you have to solder one of these adapters up yourself. I didn't feel any force feedback though in MWO when I tried it, may not be available just yet.

When that finally died I went to thrustmaster which was the second best. Almost as good targeting.
But enough about the old days when things were made to last. What about the joysticks of today. Does the extreme pro 3D really work on MWO or not. Without regprgraming it. The last real update was in june wow thats fast. They have made some attempts to currect binding
and such but I have not heard them or anyone say that this or that stick works without rewriting the cfg file. I have been told countless times
that its not a high priority. I will say this if they can deliver a joystick other than the one they make money from then fine. I play with a M+K.
It is to me like trying to drive a 4 cylinder and winn a NASCAR race. The control segment had the most posts of any on the forum until they whacked.
Sad to say that these arn't the old days , This is a game that could one of the best but if you ask for something that makes a joystick work?
How dare you say anything and it is a low prority. Who are you? Just all of us that paid hard earned money to play a game that from the beginning should have had joystick coverage. The only reason seems simple if you only give one choice they what can you do. I have heard that the extreme 3D pro one of the best layed out of all time. The only problem was the targeting in MW you could not hit anything but a cloud with it. If someone can tell me it works then I will get it . Not pay crooks 400 or over for their stick. When this game goes for real. let us hope that its only played by those who have never seen anything but there daddy's joystick. Who would never get rid of it. All the fond memories would be gone.
Let's make some new ones that will last a long time not a bunch of old guys or women who just except it becasue they said no. Hell YES its our money our play and faith that will make or break this game. Sorry I got a little carried away. They are doing the best they can but their has to be someone in Canada that have their program ready before the snow falls, opps, it might already to late.A

So, I was having the same issue you were having. Remember, this game is still in Beta, it isnt a finish product but there are work arounds.. if your not Tech savy, no worries, I'm not really into scripting either, and was intimidated by what I had to do.. but come to find out, its rather quite simple.
In your Main Mechwarrior online folder there's a file called "user.[something, i forget]" Open it with a text file and add this to it
cl_joystick_gain = 5
cl_joystick_sensitivity = 0.35
cl_joystick_throttle_range = 0
cl_joystick_invert_throttle = 1
cl_joystick_invert_pitch = 1
cl_joystick_invert_yaw = 0
cl_joystick_invert_turn = 0
cl_joystick_deadzone = 0.0
thats all the things you need. to understand what the numbers mean, go to the forum link I gave ya brother. Enjoy, Mech warrior, and remember to stick with your lance mates ^^ enjoy.

The last XP service pack killed the sidewinder stick support somehow.
I still have my old FF2 Sidewinder and its in perfect condition. Perhaps the finest product MS ever made.
TOO good so it had to be put to sleep via MS's main poison product. Sigh.

Just a thought! I to pushed down and nothing happened Well I thought so at first but then it moved . Its not a delay its just that the stick is much slower than the mouse.
I have MS FF2, I love it but I cant set it up properly in MWO. When i push froward it goes up instead of down. Im using windows 7 64 bit. If you click the windows start button and in the search box type Joystick, you will find your stick. (Obviously it has to be plugged in) When you calibrate the stick there is no options for speed of sensitivity of any kind. All buttons work and force feed back is great.
If any one knows a hack or another software that can give me us all the ability to adjust and use this in MWO I will send free beer!

Microsoft says on there compatibility site not compatable with win 7. Total bull. You don't need special drivers that don't exist, some one at micro must have been a gammer that liked sticks.
THIS IS FOR ALL JOYSTICK USERS
Its simple in the run line type "joy.cpl".
This will get you to a real joystick control pannel where you can calibrate the stick like in 98, its there you just have to know where to look. I may hook up my old cyberman (Logitech 8 way with a bunch of buttons) to see if its recoginized.
So even after doing the joy.cpl, in the normal control pannel under interface devices you will see the stick but you will not be able to calibrate or test, you must use joy.cpl
What did Heston say " when they pry it from my cold dead hand,".
Enjoy

I've seen a lot of misinformation about them and windows 7 (64 bit especially). They both work flawlessly for this game in a win 7 64 bit computer.
Things to remember:
-Use the joy.cpl command as Blax stated above to calibrate them.
-There is no driver to download- win 7 loads a generic joystick driver for them.
-The force feedback does not work with MWO (perhaps not at all with win 7???) in that it doesn't shake when you get hit, but the powered auto centering does work.
-You will probably need to edit the user.cfg file as posted above by Sean if you need to reverse things like pitch direction, etc
-The options menu in MWO will recognize all the buttons of this joystick and let you assign them. No need for third party software (unless you're doing something really fancy I suppose).
-Only thing I'm not sure about is adjusting joystick sensitivity with these joysticks- I've played around with the user.cfg file to try this and I'm not sure if it really does anything- anyone else try this?
In summary, I think the MS FF2 joystick was one of the best ever made, and it will work well with MWO even with win7 64 bit. If yours does not, I am not sure what the reasoning is, but perhaps the joystick itself is not functioning correctly.

shifter levers fire group 1 and 2, all the AXBY buttons fire the extra groups
gas pedal for up throttle
brake pedal for lower throttle
DPad for up and down
and obviously the steering wheel turns it

You could give your team mates a friendly tap of the horn when they run into you and actually cause damage, or when they're testing out their medium lasers on your rear torso armor...
