I did not do too bad on my first. While i died without doing damage i forced a assault mech to turn his back on my teammates to attend to a raven in his backside. Course the assualt died quickly too.

Better than MY first outing, back in 2012 in a trial mech (Maybe some HBK?). I got cored from 900 meters away on the old Forest Colony map, looking around in predator-vision, wondering if those were PPCs or what. (They WERE PPCs, indeed.) Took at least 20 matches to score my first kill. It's a long learning curve, but it's only STEEP in spots. The beginning is one of those spots.

You're going to have an easier time of it, though. You're using your head, seeking advice, and honing the rudimentary skills. You're gonna be just fine.

i came very close to getting my first kill this last matc using a adder prime. I had stripped a couple mechs of their ct armor and ended up getting 3 assists on what is only my 5th match.

1) Buy a Timberwolf;

2) Strap on as many CERLLs as you can;

3) Shoot at stuff and move around;

Congrats, you are now a god among men.

5) alphastrike and explode

loading lots of ERLL is a bad idea due to high heat and ghost heat (extra heat applied for firing more than a certain number of specific weapons within half a second) if you fire more than 2 at once
