We anticipate that the new monthly patch cycle will enable us to continue pushing similar amounts of bug fixes and small improvements compared to previous years, with February’s patch continuing the trend established in January.

YOU KNOW that this is just to reduce FURTHER costs right?

MONTHLY patches....from a MULTI-MILLION compay....for a AAA rated GAME..

YOU can say what ever you want but this does not bode well

I'm more concerned about the stuff that gets released in the patches than the number of patches per month...as long as actually productive things are accomplished (e.g. like all of those assorted balance changes supposedly coming this month) then I'm okay with it.

1 of the 2 patches per month was tiny bug fixes anyhow. Not really like putting the two together is going to change a whole lot other than they have to only make 1 build per month instead of 2. Then only hotfix whatever bugs they re-created once instead of twice.

Might be something to be concerned about if they were updating frequently and actually building out/balancing a game - but small tasks that aren't mechs are 3-6 month processes so at the end of the day nothing is really going to change but hit reg if they don't do bi-monthly server maintenance.

I'd like to see more frequent balance patches.

WHAT concERNS me is the FUNCtion of your shIFT key. I think IT MAY be stickING.

Seriously though, now we're latching on to monthly patches as the reason why the game is doomed? Three consecutive weekends of record player numbers doesn't exactly sound like the game is doing badly.

We all know that PGI has had QA issues with patches, so it makes sense for them to reduce the pace and do more testing.

It appears we've run out of tinfoil and had to move to wax paper. The results are in and it seems it doesn't matter what you put on your head, you're just as crazy.

You really don't understand game design do you...

It's about using time wisely... If you need 40-80 man hours to make a patch, that you could be doing something more productive, you just added extra people to your workforce, for no cost. I don't know how many man hours each patch takes, But if dev teams have been saying it's an issue for 3 years.. You can be sure they know what the heck they are talking about.

It's one of the smartest things they have done as of late. Builds and QA are one of the more intensive man power things, beyond bug hunting.

Unless they are laying off staff, how is this going to reduce their costs exactly?

Monthly patches are not unusual for games, especially if the company is one that likes to cram in all the little things instead of rolling out incrementals. They are also correct that in theory anyway, 1 patch instead of 2 saves them time on making and testing builds (in theory, in practice it depends on how many bugs the larger patch creates).

Also a note, this is not really a AAA game, not as the term is normally used.

Oooohhhh.... got it. All game companies are the same and because you've played other games you're an expert on the topic. Gotcha.

Besides which... so what? What are going to do? Are you just angry we're not pointlessly complaining more about something we have no control over?

CW Hass been broken and for a year. A YEAR. It will likely be a year or more before CW changes to give players a reason to care who wins or loses. Anyone with an issue over glacial development checked out a while ago.

Also when you call people "sheep" it makes you sound like a complete hipster self-important dbag who should be ignored on principle. I make two "observations" that are more insightful than the original post in my toilet every morning before breakfast.

It's not.. It is freeing up workers to do higher priority tasks

Monthly patches are fine, maybe it'll help the quality of the patches.

If anything super critical is found PGI can always hotfix on demand.

This is no big deal, move along, nothing to see here.

I love it when someone calls others "sheep" and then they expect you to blindly believe what they have to say without any evidence or factual basis. Posted Image

To be honest I also expect them to simply do less by only doing a single patch each month. But I'll wait and see for a few patches at least.
