Lirik is playing MWO O.o

http://www.twitch.tv/lirik

I find it an interesting test of how the game holds up from the perspective of new people.

Haha, he just charged the whole enemy team in an ACH and jumped vertically up when they all started shooting him...

He's a really big streamer with a steady 30k viewers. So it's big exposure for a game like MWO. I mean i know I sometimes see a game being played by a streamer I like and i give it a whirl and lots of people do that too. That's how Kripparrian gave Path of Exile a push.

EDIT: Realized that you might have mean that he's clueless xD
Yeah, he is xD. He got a kill tho.

Instead of acting like self-entitled curmudgeon neckbeards, you might want to think about how valuable exposure like this is for MWO and its potential for long-term sustainability, greater income and therefore greater development.

Yeah I wish he would be willing to group. Some guidance would make the game much clearer.
If a game comes off well infront of 30k people at least 10% of them are gonna look it up on steam and try it, especially since it's free.

Well, he'll probably find out one way or another how lacking the NPE is in the game...

People don't really consider what it is like to have zero clue on how to build mechs... how to spend C-bills wisely... and most importantly how to drive a mech.

So, as long as people run alt accounts "knowing what they know now" and use that as a reference point... people will have skewed views on how MWO actually functions.

Yeah, the NPE could be like 5 times better with just a few simple cosmetic changes. If they would stop with the stupid community built Trial mechs and instead have a couple of good players whip up a Clan and IS mech for each playstyle and offer them up to players that way.

"Hello. Welcome to MWO. Here's a selection of mechs. If you want to snipe, use these. If you wanna run around and backstab, use these etc. And a short sentence on how to play them".
A message like that and a good selection would make it 10 times easier for someone starting out.

Beacuse new players have no idea what the **** is a Large Laser and seeing that a mech has it doesn't give much info. You have to do an hour of reading before you can have any idea of what you want to play, and there really isn't any need for new players to go through that.

Tried to watch the stream for some minutes but I just can't. This streamer is..... he's annoying. Can't believe that there are so many people "enduring" this.

Well, getting a well known streamer to play your game is the best form of advertisement you could wish for but it's not the right audience for Mechwarrior Online. Some will test the game, fail miserably and deinstall just as fast as they installed the game. It's no Dota2/LoL/CSGO so why should they bother?

Yeah, whether that's entertaining or not is very much subject to taste, but his stream isn't the question, it's how it can benefit MWO. I thought it was interesting to see the game from another perspective and the perspective of the viewers. He liked it in the end (and so did some of the viewers, judging by chat) and you never know. If 10% install and of those people 10% continue playing after 5 hours, you still have 300 new players.

Makes me wish PGI did more promotional work and a couple of simple things to ease new players in.

Players who don't understand a game, sometimes enjoy it more by watching someone who would make the same new player mistakes they would make (which also helps them learn from that) as opposed to watching some seasoned vet and having zero clue why that vet is successful, why they are playing a certain way, etc.

This is what we called.. learning about competency. Also known as the Dunner-Kruger effect.

I don't think he was talking about his skill, but that the streamer is annoying as a person. I can really understand this because most of the time when I'm looking for a game on Youtube and see a Let's play or something, I have to turn it off after few moments because the guy who's playing it is so annoying. Can't really understand how so many people actually like to watch stuff like that. The concept is fine, but when those players are just going like "DUUUDEEEE HAVE YO SEEEN THIS?!? NOOO WAYYYY!", it's annoying as hell.

From So1ahma:

Quote

So far:

  • Played through most of the Tutorial
  • Very confused by the UI. Didn't seem to notice words or really give it much thought. Oh well, something you don't pick up on immediately.
  • He was given the Masakari clan package, probably so he could entertain the stream more.
  • First drop on Forest Colony "this map looks terrible" proceeded to rush half the enemy team with stock Puma Prime ( 2x ERPPC) and get slaughtered.
  • Dropped on an Oceanic server and noticed his ping "These servers tho LOL!!" DWF on HPG. Actually killed someone! He was very happy.
  • "More people watching me play this game than there are people playing this game"
  • SO much friendly fire. AHA! I don't think he knows he can hurt his teammates.
  • Caustic Valley "Something makes this game look terrible, not sure what it is, but other times it looks amazing" ran straight into the enemy with an ACH. Got legged and killed mid air.
  • Many overheats. I don't think he knows about the heat bar.
  • "THERE'S A ******' MECH WITH A SNIPER!?" As his Jenner was killed from behind on mining collective.
  • The guys seems to have an EXTREMELY short attention span. Would probably never really get into the game sadly. His twitch chat (sub only mode) also most show this quality... Many people that wouldn't give this game a chance because of a lot of silly reasons. But whatever, their taste I guess.
  • Last match was ACH on Polar. Chased enemy ACH into the enemy team. Chased him until he killed him though! "That was crazy dude!"
  • "are you sure there is fall damage?" Jumps full height in the ACH and blows off his red leg "fuuuuuuuuuuu!"

Pretty funny, interesting, and sad watching first impressions from someone like this.

From So1ahma:

To some degree, the UI does occasionally suffer from Information Overload (usually referred to as TMI).

There is times you do want info, and times you don't, and when your UI doesn't provide legible text (poor text scaling), information that you may not necessarily need (cockpit items need like their own useful tab to locate them all - not in the place when you're actually doing serious mechlab work), information that is totally missing at a glance (how much ammo do I have in the mech?), and information that has no "value" (what does PGI's heat value actually mean? smurfy's makes more sense when you are reading up on how it is calculated).

There's a reason why the fluff text in MW4 was separated from the actual mechlab important info (if anything, you need a "how to use"/"be effective with this weapon" button for newer players).

It is what it is.

PGI could care less about exposure, just look how they treat STEAM, no trading cards no profile backgrounds, just barebones.
