Not realy, because he used not a custom variant, he used the MAR-1R.
Or should I better say he used the Daboku. An early version of the Mauler.
But PGI made the Gray Death Shadow Hawk and the Pirates` Bane Locust. In true Lori used a normal Locust 1V and Grayson used a Phoenix Hawk and not a Shadow Hawk.
And the canonical basis of "Heavy Metal" (Rhonda Snord's personal 'Mech) was largely just a standard
Highlander, the canonical basis of "Firebrand" (Donald Vincent's personal 'Mech) was just a standard
JagerMech, the canonical basis of "Misery" (J. Elliot Jamison's personal 'Mech) was just a standard
Stalker, the canonical basis of "Dragon Slayer" (Ardan Sortek's personal 'Mech) was just a standard
Victor, the canonical "Boar's Head" (the personal 'Mech of Rodney Van Kleven) was just a standard
Atlas while the PGI loadout is based on the personal
Atlas of Danielle Rondema (who died in the Battle of Misery in the 3020s), Grigori Kovalenko and his "Ilya Muromets" don't even exist in BattleTech canon, and so on and so forth.
Modifying the loadout of Hawk's
Mauler/
Daboku for the sake of making a Hero 'Mech significantly & meaningfully different from the common variant the character actually used would be nothing new for PGI.
