Greetings MechWarriors,

This post contains information for all variants of the Rifleman, releasing for eligible pilots with the February 16th patch.

Rifleman

Pictured variant: RFL-3N [S]

Release date for MC: May 3rd 2016
Release date for C-Bills: June 7th 2016

A truly ancient BattleMech design, the Rifleman debuted before the Star League in 2505. Several variants attempted to redress some of the original’s design flaws. The RFL-3N received widespread acceptance and was heavily produced for the Star League Defense Force.

Rifleman RFL-LK 'Legend Killer'
The RFL-LK is the Hero variant of the Rifleman, and until its in-game MC purchase release date on May 3rd 2016 is only available through direct purchase from the Rifleman page. It features a custom 'Legend Killer' Hero Pattern and a 30% boost to C-Bill earnings.

Ok, so very excited to get this mech next week after 3 to 4 month wait since ordering. A couple of observations:

1 - Torso pitch angle seems a little low - isn't this supposed to be an anti aircraft type of build?
2 - No CT structure quirk - assuming this is to push people to use XL with the ST structure quirks?
3 - 3N no structure quirks at all. Why?

Everyone is referring to it as the poor man's Jagermech. Hoping this is more the big brother of the Blackjack.

It's more of a LaserWarrior's version of the JagerMech.

is the logic used to determine mech quirks completely random? 70% accel/decel? really? it already needs that much help even before it's had it's first drop?

I think they're trying to push for more variation within each chassis now. So you often have one that's got much more turning speed or accel/deceleration bonuses (for corner peeking prowess), one with the most armor, and one with a mix of both. Throw in some various weapon quirks and there ya go.

Hopefully the Rifleman doesn't end up being too squishy, but anyone running it with stock armor is gonna get smashed. The thing does not come with much armor on the stock loadouts. Not quite Shadow Hawk 2D levels of insanity, but not much better either lol.

Yes, 280 armour on a heavy does not a tank make!

Greetings all,

The earlier poster was correct, This 'Mech was originally designed as a dedicated AAA unit.

- Supporting the Company or formation with that role but also able to deal long range fire at ground units.
- This 'Mech should really have 'extreme' abilities to track and engage fast moving targets.
(unless that is a 'future' sensor add-on ability? "Air Target Tracking" module)

After all, that massive head wing sensor array must be for some purpose!

As seen here: (yes Jager, but the Rifleman was the follow on 'Mech chassis)
http://spooky777.dev...rking-365126716

~ This 'Mech really needs the ability to 'Kneel', as do many MWO 'Mechs.

Arms dude. RFLs anti air arsenal was always in its arms. Torso lasers are anti mech, armor, etc.

Eh... Pardon me, but wasn't the Rifleman supposed to be JumpJet-capable? Or am I just thinking of the IIC version, due to old games like "MechWarrior 2"??? :o

Rifleman looks to be a 60t dream. High hard points, good accel/decel for hill humping, and looks like good geometry for hitboxes. Sadly this thing looks to be so good as to question why does the Dragon even exist. Poor guy did nothing wrong. I always liked the Dragon despite its flaws but now I guess we take him out back and finish him off so he doesn't give any other mechs the rabies.

What are your thoughts on the Legend Killer now that quirks are out? I own the standard pack now and I am debating whether I want to add the LK. I mocked up a build and to get decent armor levels and stick with XL240/245, I could only go 2xLB-10X with 2xLL or 4xMPL.

With 40% ballistic velocity and 20% cooldown, the 3N look a good candidate for a double AC20 build.
What is funny about the Riflemen is that I will probably leave them mostly close to stock except for the double heatsink, endo steel upgrades, some more ammo and maybe lasers.

Yeah, you are confusing with the Rifleman IIC... there is no IS Rifleman with jumpjets in the near future.

Maybe these "Classic" IIC will come to MWO soon? (Locust IIC, Griffin IIC, Rifleman IIC and Marauder IIC make a great pack)

So I bought Origins IIC a while back, preorder/early adopter and all that buzz. Played them when they released, liked the visuals, liked the ability to finally get my hands on customizable Clan Battlemechs.

But was busy playing other recently released games for a while, come back, check on my hangar just to see that after nearly three months their quirk pages are still empty. And check the forums to look at that Mech here, to lay my eyes for the very first time upon +70% quirks? AT RELEASE DAY? ... (insert inappropriate outbreak of rage induced insult WHAHAHAHHAHAAH here) ... (and continue here)

You gotta be kiddin me.

Are you kiddin me?

Where is the problem with slapping some appropriate modifiers unto a Mech chassis?

The IIC mechs are already pretty above-average though, they don't really NEED quirks.... I'd like to see a few structure quirks on the Highlander, and Hunchie.... but honestly, they are all very effective machines as they are. Highlander could use some JJ quirks too :3

And I think the project Phoenix version. A lot of people confuse the variants, since sarna doesn't date stamp must of them
