Thinking on it for some time; it would assist new players and veterans alike, to have a dedicated Drop Commander. With a interface similar to MechCommander. They already have something in game that is similar. With a few tweaks and some commands placed into it, it would be a viable addition.

You could help the team by coordinating split actions, targeting, getting objectives, setting up traps, getting away from traps and so on.

I think it would be a great addition to the game.

Love the thread. In the general topic screen it read to my eyes like:

Know What CW Needs? MECHPORN!

Agreed!

We've talked about this in our unit often - a dedicated commander mode would be a lot of fun, and free up a drop caller to focus on strategy. Something like MechCommander like you mentioned, or a recent example would be Battlefield 4's Commander mode. Would be so much fun...

Given that the community's been asking for a functional commo-rose ingame since there was any sort of company/lance command available, something tells me we won't see a feature like this for....well, anytime soonTM Posted Image

I think it would be fun also. As a bonus, you could remove Air Strikes and Arty Strikes from the MechWarriors and place them in the Commanders control (with a deployment option of smoke or no smoke).

Didn't BF 4 have the commander mode on other devices? I like the idea of taking command without needing to lug around a laptop, etc. It would be great to have the ability to use a portable device (IE Ipad) and have the triangles show up in real time on the map and send commands. You could do this in the car, airport, etc and still feel like you are getting your MWO fix.

That would really make sense if CW were "end game content" as originally advertised.

Unfortunately, it takes at least a rudimentary knowledge of both the game and the mission parameters for something like that to be used...let alone be useful. As of right now, CW is more of a "romper room" for new players to learn in.....the solo queue is too hard for them, since the Matchmaker keeps all the T4 and T5s together. In CW, they get to drop in free mechs and let the experienced players carry them. Is what it is.

For this, they would need to test it first.

A perfect test would be allowing CW matches in Private Match. There you can have 2 spectators who each would act as their sides MechCommander. This would also allow Units to use Private Match for training people how to play CW with no harmful effect in actual CW.

Presuming it works, then you just allow 1 spectator per side in actual CW matches.

What CW needs is a developer that understands how to set up a persistent campaign mode...

Sorta like the Battlefield 2 Commander in Multiplayer. Not a bad issue but it does take a mech out of the fight ... better team work might be able to over come it but then you run into people climbing over each other to get it like a vehicle in battlefield.

Maybe try turning on Spectator Mode and allowing a 13th member to drop as the commander? They could even have "fog of war:" if they don't have a dorito, they don't show up on the spectator's screen.
