Failed creating the direct3d device.

That's the error message I am getting as well, previous fixes described on these forums do not seem to resolve this issue. Game worked before patch was applied.
Help!

Same "feature" here (failed to create 3D Device).
Win 8.1 x64 old GTX260 card.
8GB Ram
-> Repair wont help.
-> Change Client to 32 or 64 bit wont help
-> changing settings in game.cfg wont help
-> delete Userfolder wont help

Great job with the patch PGI!

Same problem as above users. Game gives a Direct 3D error after clicking Play.
System is running Windows 10 and due to age of the graphics card I must run Direct X 9.

- All Windows 10 updates have been installed.
- NVIDIA driver is current for GTX 240..
- Repair Tool did not find any errors.
- Running both 64 bit (my usual client) and 32 bit gives the same error.
- Steam client has the same problem.

Researching threads this one seems to pop up for random people several times a year. The only solution I see repeated is reinstalling the game, which I don't currently have the motivation to try.

April 2014 - http://mwomercs.com/...irect3d-device/
August 2015 - http://mwomercs.com/...rect-3d-device/
December 2015 - http://mwomercs.com/...irect3d-device/
January 2016 - https://mwomercs.com...irect3d-device/

*edit addition*
- attempting to force direct x 9 through the .cfg file had no change.

Same problem here, game worked just fine prior to patching. Just deinstalled and currently downloading to reinstall. Will report back if this solves the problem.

Same situation: "Failed creating the Direct3D device."
Same environment: Windows 10, "Force 32-bit game client" (due to older computer), and was working prior to patch.

Game worked before patch, doesn't work now. This is happening to me too. I have tried the previous fixes and had the same outcome (Failed Creating Direct3D Device). I also have uninstalled and reinstalled the game completely.

Patch tries to force DX11 on clients that are compatible with it. Trying switching between DX9 and DX11 to see if that helps (if you can get to the settings in the launcher).

Unable to get to settings in the launcher. I also reinstalled my video driver * which was already up to date * still same error weather trying 64 or 32 bit.

Same issue here. Both the Steam client and the original MWO client fail on startup after the patch installed. Windows 10 64-bit, GTX 260. Repair Tool didn't fix the issue.

Same here, worked before patch, now doesn't.

Reinstalled drivers, reinstalled MWO
Installed DX9.0c
Tried the usual fixes (deleted userfolder, removed/tweaked game.cfg, all of the above).

Rig:
i5 4690k stock speed
16GB Corsair RAM
EVGA GTX 260 (only thing I still need to upgrade trololol)
Windows 8.1

Shame I haven't got to try out the only things I've ever bought with real money in this game so far...

Are people using the Steam or standalone clients? Maybe try Steam's "verify the integrity of the local game files"

I do not use steam... but some of the other post have and still same result according to them above. I checked dxdiag to make sure the 3d was enabled which it is. still nothing to allow me to play the game.. Which i have spent lots of real money on.

I downloaded steam, not working. What's this verify files thing you were talking about? Couldn't find it. Sure it's right in my face.

At least two times GTX 260 was mentioned and a single GTX 285. Sounds like something in this game after patch requires something that is not supported. Driver level? What are others cards? Same GTX 2xx?
