Sorry, who is that post directed at?

The same person as you, echoing your statement essentially - nobody has to pay for a website unless they want to.

I seriously doubt that the developers will make us research upgraded weapons or chassis, but upgradable merc HQ's could allow for a bigger "garage" and could allow for a larger Merc Unit.

for example I would imagine that it would look something like this:

Level 1: 1 Lance
Level 2: 2 Lances
Level 3: 1 Company (12 - 16 mechs)
Level 4: 2 Companies.
Level 5: 1 Batallion (roughly 3 companies plus a command lance)
Level 6: 2 Batallions
Level 7: 1 Regimental Combat Team to include 3 full batallions plus a command company (and possibly support)

I cannot imagine that the devs would even consider allowing us to get into Brigades or Divisions.

In addition to this upgrades could allow for the Merc Company to allow to store more weapons, armor and ammo.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

John, here is a site that provides FREE webspace. You just have to deal with Adverts unless you pay to be rid of them. Also Monies get more features but it works well as is.

http://www.guildlaunch.com/

So yes, any Faction or Merc Corp, can have a Web Page.

I don't need free space, I have my own server. But there is a financial, and technical knowledge barrier, which 'some' groups might not be able to bridge. Aside from that, I'd still like to see stats which can be viewed externally or some kinda of API.

As a secondary idea, The head quarters may not have to limit the number of people you can have in your corporation, (or could make a much higher limit) but could limit exactly what kind of missions your company could bid for and the number of forces you can deploy at any given time.

"We are sorry your level 2 company is not large enough to field the force we require on Planet X. This contract requires a full company of mechs and support and your company currently has only half of what we require." (Obviously this would not be the text in game as it does not have the "flavor" correct.

As an example.

Just checked out Sandline & Blackwaters' web pages for inspiration - they could really learn alot from the MW spirit!!
I'm all for a Mech Bay / Clubhouse / Bar graphic where it's essentially a 'room' which displays:

Current Contracts & on which worlds
What average C- Bills per battle are.
Victories against all odds & on what planets.
Trash talk other Merc groups. (Promotes competitiveness)
Each new member gets a drink of their choice, free ! (Lol)

Just echoing what Mercs seem to have always been famous for which is not caring about anyone else including their present employers (much)

I guess my idea of a (smaller) merc. group would be more like a fraternity? With it's own individual quirks? The big merc groups would still be corporate.

John Clavells' idea of stat. tracking from battles. But maybe given a bragging rights flavor? Like a wall plaque saying how good we are etc.

xlrate saying group membership can stop you getting contracts if low sounds like the right flavor!!

Personality of the leader would be ultra important to a merc Corp I think!! Just so people know it's not say, House Davion when you tell your Lance that anyone who didn't keep up with the drink rounds last night can "damn well go on point!" for example. Bannockburns Rangers in the BT role-play game for example. My 5 cents worth, maybe 2 cents...:P

Well for a start 'mech garages should be dealt with personally, you'd need to find somewhere to build yours however or you could... Rent bays on board your faction dropship(s). As for capacity, I think it would be better if you had it on a Lance (or Star) basis (now referred to as unit). You would create a unit and then as you hire/create new units in the original unit becomes the founding one and when your unit reaches a certain size it can be registered with the the House of affiliation or the relevant Merc authority.

Look, I'm all for a mercenary unit earning their way up, and I know we haven't heard everything from our developers (I would now like to hear everything), but I would really love to see units earn their way up using means already provided readily in the game universe. This doesn't mean I'm trying to start yet another boorish TT vs. non-TT argument, not in the least, it means that there are logical and appropriate-to-the-game-universe means for building a merc unit up. I am also NOT trying to make it take fifteen or twenty real-world years to build up in a House service before being able to start up a Merc Corps, but it would be nice to start out a unit and then let it grow by already in-game universe mechanics, plus a faction mechanic. This mechanic would not be used for grinding faction, it just means that the types of contracts available, how their completed, for and against whom, will adjust faction.

It's very early, and I'm rambling.

Article quote:
"Another major part of the game is customization and organizing into mercenary units, Ekman explains. ”Players will be able to band together in the format of a lance, which is four, and they’ll be able to band together as a mercenary corporation for hire. That’s not unlike a guild. We have a whole editor and mercenary HQ for players to explore that allows them to customize the look and feel of their corporation, their membership, the structure of how they enter battle, the lances, their names, ranks, and all kinds of things.”

Doesn't that read more like a Merc Corp membership will be designated as a Lance of four per contract offer?
Just keep doing multiples of 4 w/o member cap on size of membership. The game engine gleens the required LP data from each member of the already approved/registered Merc Corp in order to issue appropriate contracts to said Corp. You would then define your 'Lance' or 'Lances' in terms of members answering a contract offer as indicated in above quote about "structure of how they enter battle".
Dev Quote:
"The matches themselves will support multiple teams and multiple four-person squads (“lances” in MechWarrior parlance). The primary focus will be Conquest mode, which will allow for more tactics and teamwork, but there will also be a variety of deathmatch modes available."

The Merc Corp editor allows these units to set up any off-line internal hall graphics/structure/ranks they want. They can vote to elect commanders, throw darts, cut cards or turn off lights & lock door to last standing. Ranks can run from, (some disappointed if not used again), Gilligan to Skipper. Whatever you cook up is applicable to only those particular Merc Corp members in their off-line 'gathering place' or Merc Corp. Don't see any IS planets w someones Merc Corp HQ sitting on it or anything so grand.
