For same amount of grind that before in previous events it was only c-bills, now its c-bill and cockpit item and mc.

If so, does this mean players bored of stupid nerfs and buffs, and want really something new in game, really big changes? Like this http://mwomercs.com/...85#entry4989285 or this http://mwomercs.com/...02#entry5023302 or this http://mwomercs.com/...nic-video-demo/

It's more like PGI's trying to lose it's Scrooge-stingy idea of giving away MC.. but they are giving it in ultra-tiny doses that it's meh.

It's primarily for the Steam crowd, but it started a bit earlier though (since the Urbie IIRC).

Not necessarily. PGI has simply realized what most other F2P devs have, which is that if you give people an inch, they'll pay to go the rest of the foot.

I definitely need more content to start playing again. The MLX and Shadowcat are my two favorite mechs, I was planning on trying them out after this patch, but I just can't muster the motivation to play this game. I think I'll get back on once the Nova gets re-sized. I started playing Squad and the Game modes and teamwork in that game really make MWO so boring. If only Squad had bad *** mechs, I'd never need anything else.

Never touched the MLX, but the Shadow Cat is amazingly good now IMO due to the MASC buff. Being able to smash it into 120 km/h speeds at a somewhat consistent rate REALLY increases your ability to change positions in time. Still would love some more buffs for the poor thing, but the MASC changes have been enough to let me feel like I'm not actively contributing to my team dying.

they have always done this. sure i saved up and got a misery on sale by sitting on mc for months. ive blown it on mechbays too. in fact i only bought about 20-30 mech bays, and the rest were prizes or freebies. and i have 83 bays right now.

thing is when you are here long enough to get that far, you eventually see something you like while you have money and spend it. part of the reason for the grind is actually advertising. the longer you play the game the more you look at the ads for new content, they claw their way into your brain and you drop your cash. "ive given these people enough money, oooh kodiak, take my money!"

Shadowcat's CT sticks out way too much. Like the Dragon's. It needs a CT structure buff.

This. The best way to get players to buy MC is to get them used to having and spending MC.

Other F2P games with millions of players have been doing this for a while. I've been asking for it for a while too. It just makes sense. PGI finally made the right call.

It doesn't mean the game is dying, no. PGI just learned from other F2P games.

I believe the free MC with events started with the Halloween 2014 grab bags.

OP:

Yup for this contest you can get up to 100MC. And gee a mech bay is only 300MC and now its only 200MC for you. Why don't you buy some MC to get that extra mech bay. Only $7 and you get 1,250 MC, more than enough for a mech bay. Oh wait, there is a a firestrater mastery pack for 4,350 MC. I've got almost half of it now in MC, might as well buy some more MC. And the chain continues until the guy is spending $500 on gold mechs.

This is how Asian style microtransaction game companies make their money and that is why PGI is giving away minimal amounts of MC to get people to register their credit cards and buy more MC. No, MWO isn't dying, they are doing very well at the moment.

Nope, just about every F2P game does it.

WoT does it

War Thunder does it

Robocraft does it

Planetside 2 does it

Hawken did it at one point a long time ago

Just to name a few

F2P games do it get people hooked on spending money
and it works very well, even against strong willed people.

But out of all the F2P games I've played, MWO has to be the most balanced and stable and the better multiplayer game out there for me. My 2+years are proof of that.

If they were throwing out chunks of 500 MC or whatever for free, maybe.

Little chunks of 20/50/75 MC is enough to buy a Camo job, and thats it.

We get more than that for the Grab-bag events that pop up once in a while, and nobody says the game is dying then either.

Luckily that's all I need it for.

Thanks PGI.

I think they are doing it because of lack of content in game. To keep players playing. I think maybe they wont have to rely on this some day and stock piling MC and credits may be a good idea.

Right now this game relies on selling mechs for MC, credits and dollars. It absolutely must get beyond that in the long term. Even the game play is all mechs and it has to get beyond that to. No question the peeps building this game know this.

Decals is by far the coolest mech customization possible along with paint and camo. That's going in for sure, but why the wait? This is actually a real mystery, why havnt decals gone in yet? I blame NGNG and their soft ball questions for the players not knowing this very important detail. :) Hear that NGNG ask the tough questions! :)

I agree with those citing lack of content justifying MC rewards. Yes they have been doing it for a while now and I recall people gushing over it when it began. A nifty distraction method indeed since they haven't given us any long term viable content with a hook to this point.
