Artemis And Srms Question

I haven't played around too much with missiles yet. LRMs seem pretty boring in general (though situationally useful -- if the situation can be counted on). Brawling is more interesting. Thus far I've stuck to AC heavy builds, however I now have a few mechs that stock SRMs for brawling and I understand they can pack a lot of damage in.

Onto the question. Sometimes SRM mech builds I've seen put on SRMs plus Artemis and sometimes it's vanilla SRMs. What are the tradeoffs for this? If I'm dumb firing missiles at 0-200m I guess presumably I don't need fancy guidance? Or is it more of a weight issue and Artemis guidance cuts down on my ordnance quantity if I'm in a small or medium brawler? Just curious why folks go one way or the other.

Artemis makes the spread of your srms tighter, so you can actually focus on different hitzones at longer ranges, especcially with SRMS 6, which has quite a big spread unguided.
The trade-off is that they take more tonnage and an additional slot.

Artemis will reduce the spread on the SRMs. If you have the weight and space it can be worth taking. I don't usually take it on anything except SRM6 though.

Got it, thanks. I ended up with an Oxide because I took advantage of the MC perk and got a three pack of Jenners and this is my first "missile-ready" mech, though I've considered the HBK-4SP off and on for awhile as well. The Oxide builds tend to stick to SRM4 and don't come with Artemis usually so that prompted the question. Thanks for the info!

Second, yep you got it.. she wants 4xSRM4. With that, go forth and commence Zoom & Boom. No Artemis necessary.

I usually don't run Artemis even on my SRM6 builds. I have a tendency not to push the splat button until I'm close enough that spread doesn't matter and my tonnage is better used for increased heat efficiency.

Here's hoping ;-). I did pretty okay with the trial Jenner, but the ones that came with the "pack" were much slower. Trying to raise the C-Bills to ramp the engines up to an adequate level, do the armor frame adjustments and that sort of thing.

Isn't she? Jenny-0 is right there at my #1 favorite tied with my Marauder.. but when I just need speed and gratification Oxide gets me my fix. Just a pure pleasure to drive. Glad you're enjoying it!

It's often a weight issue, getting Artemis IV guidance costs 1 slot and 1 ton per missile pod. It stacks up if you're running a "splat" build with 4+ SRMs.

Also having a looser spread means you will hit more often(you don't need as perfect aim) but not as accurately(you'll have trouble focusing down specific sections of the enemy mech).

Don't get too attached to your Oxides, boys and girls. I've seen enough complaining about it that it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it got smacked back into oblivion with the nerfhammer. Remember the Huggin?

Yep. Seen many of these about more and more. It's the only light I crap my pants when I am in a light, Arctic Cheetah included.

I'm running a Jenner IIC with 6X6 SRMs. Artemis is a poor choice for this 'Mech for a number of reasons, including hardpoint placement limitations, tonnage limitations, and the fact that if you clang against an enemy, your missiles are mostly going to hit one component anyway.

Also, I don't really fear Oxides in this. Is that weird?

Yeah been in so many games where the abilities are manipulated that I'll just roll with what happens. Don't really see why though. They're also pretty fragile like every other light.

When I'm in my heavy, I have extremely healthy respect for well piloted lights. Any of them can run circles around you.
