Hola Juscar, I'm a Cav CSM down at Bragg these days. Good to see another scout out there.

As someone else noted here....don't let the faction stuff guide you nearly so much as the people you ultimately end up enjoying dropping with.

Every faction has it's positives and negatives in lore (Capellans are noted zealots/highly patriotic, but also from a society known for the crazed rule of unhinged tyrants at times...the "good guy" Davions have those that clearly worry more about the ends justifying the means on occasion, the Clans have a myriad of personalities that range from the pragmatic to the completely maniacal and often within the same faction - Vlad Ward and Ulric Kerensky of the Wolves demonstrate this clearly).

So, in the end, it's possible to rationalize patriotism, freedom etc into most if not all of these factions depending on one's viewpoint and more importantly intentions. Like most things in life, there's alot of shades of grey (but not 50...that's clearly an overstatement for marketing purposes!).

I'd definitely troll around the various Teamspeaks or catch people via ingame VOIP and get to know some folks. Not necessarily join a unit, but just meet some folks. In the end, your friendships will more likely drive your faction decision moreso than the lore.

The lore tends to drive those that came here already BT-knowledgeable, with a persona (or two or three) already in mind. You don't sound like someone who came here already fired up about certain factions, so I wouldn't pigeon-hole yourself now.

Good hunting and if you ain't Cav, ............well, you know the rest. See ya on Fiddler's Green mofo.

I probably wouldn't have chosen Steiner.

If your looking for lore flavor I would say join the FRR (blue snake) for the inner sphere , join clan wolf for clans
As for the game the lore makes little difference ( at least so far)
If you want to fight with honor on the IS side join Kurita

So joining a faction is less important than finding a unit to gel with
Each of the factions have a community team speak server , I'd suggest finding those and hang around in each ,see who resonates with you , there are plenty of mercs running their servers too

Well has no one dropped this in here? Posted Image

May not be 100% accurate, but you get a faction based on your opion on 12 different questions about your thought on specific topics.

During 3050-52 (actual timeline), in MWO all the clan faction are crusader ones.
After 3057, clan Wolf splitted, and clan "Wolf in exile" became warden one, and with the Kell Hound mercenary unit formed the "Arc Royal Defence", to protect Inner Sphere from Jade Falcon.

All the other warden are not present in mwo.

Actually wrong (even on Sarna), Clan Wolf has been a warden Clan from its appearance until the split (verified for example in the book series describing Phelan Kells life in Clan Wolf).

@Topic: If you are looking for a fit in terms of lore I think ice trey already gave you great pointers. You'd probably fit in with Davion. Most people dont choose faction by lore in the game though, so dont expect to find these characteristics while you play. Many people are mercenaries switching factions regularly so I would go as far as to say that ingame there are not real faction traits.

I went to a military school and was part of the armor company; I know exactly where you're coming from.

Rather than focus on faction, I say focus on joining an actual team.

Like 228, KCOM, MercStar, Clan Wolf International, Steel Jaguars, Star Wolves, Epsilon, Tau, or other competitive unit.

You'll find mech maneuvers are similar to armor platoon maneuvers.

One thing in advance ...
please don´t go FULL DONALD, ok ?

´Murricans ain´t the only people in the world liking their freedom, ye know Posted Image

So...

As my preceding speakers already said :
Take a good look around, check out units and find one that YOU find comfy .
Since you mentioned having been a scout I guess you will need to search for people that are "tactically/strategically" on or about the same level and nature of thinking as you are .
This WILL take some time, because for that to find out you will need to drop at least a few times with people to see how they react to differing situations and if their reactions are fitting well with yours .

So, take your time, check out all the awesome units MW:O has to offer and remember :
Going LEEROY JENNERKINS is a valid tactic sometimes, going FULL DONALD on the opposite is and will never be of any validity at all .

Greetings and good luck in finding what you´re looking for .

@Juskar: From what you are saying I would say Davion or Steiner.

Here is the lore fore those two nations:

Lyran Commonwealth ( Lyran Alliance ), Ruled by House Steiner.

Federated Suns, Ruled by House Davion.

thanks again everyone! I was trying to just try to figure out which faction to join just to figure out which faction I could start looking for units in, Im not new to mech warrior just dumb to the lore :P

thanks the help guys I guess ill just keep trolling around to find units on the threads.

now that I see that lore wise the factions and clans are way more complex than simply "these guys good, these guys bad"
ill probly just stick to finding people and choosing a unit.

Marik is the closest to a U.S. style faction. It's a loose alliance of individual states. You're more than welcome to drop by our TS server any time if you'd like to check us out. housemarik,enjinvoice.com

Yup, Marik for the politics, Steiner for the Capitalism. Both remind me of the good 'ole US of A, though the most freedom loving would prolly be FRR, considering Rasalhague did just manage to win freedom from Steiner an Kurita shortly before the Clans came to conquer. That said, I think the OP decided to troll around for units rather'n picking a specific faction.

Fortunately, the Steiner Warfront always seems to have some action going on, and Marik seems to've pick up some steam since last I checked em out, so who knows, they may end up in one o' those two anyways.

@OP, If I may, I would like to suggest you hop about grabbing rank two in all the factions for free mechbays, an whilest there, chat with the folks you drop with. Make friends, join team speaks, an move on. Jot down notes on who you would an would not wanna drop with, an decide from there. Took me months to decide on my unit, but I don't regret the decision or taking the time to do so. It was a tough choice too, as there're some decent units out there, and even some more loyalist, less mercenarial sorts in both Steiner an Marik.
