Hey y'all,

I've been playing the EBJ, the Marauder, and Warhammer and do absolutely fantastic in them. I just recently got the Timberwolves, and am actually finding myself struggling to do well in them. Any ideas?

Lasers and more lasers. Get chassis with CT energy slots. Cram as much lasers as you can and then heat sinks the rest of the tonnage

I run mine with 5 Medium Pulse Lasers and 2 LRM10 with two and a half tons of ammo. The LRMs are used simply as a closing weapon and are not intended to be used in a manner where you hang back and LRM things to death, but merely to soften up your enemy while you get into range or allow you to do something while your team camps and you wait for the fight to get a little closer. Those two and a half tons of ammo will not last you long, so don't fire your LRMs against targets that you don't reasonably believe you will actually have a lock long enough for your missiles to make contact. I first discovered this build on my Mad Dog. It works there too. I also use a similar build on my Summoner that has 4 medium pulse lasers and 1 LRM20. Whatever you do, just keep in mind that your lasers are where your punch is, and your missiles are just a side weapon. If you don't like the LRM idea the LRM launchers can be easily replaced with a couple of SRM6s that can add a significant extra wallop at close range. That being said, I have a harder time doing well in my Timber Wolf as well than I do in my other clan heavies that run similar or identical builds. Which makes little sense because the Timber Wolf is actually better at running the build than my Mad Dog, since it does it cooler, with a half ton more ammo, and with more armor. I think it may have something to do with the fact that the Timber Wolf used to be so overpowered that everyone got in the habit of persecuting any Timber Wolves they saw as quickly and viciously as possible because they were extremely dangerous and hard to kill. They're not that overpowered now, but the stigma still remains. I think it's probable that my Mad Dog does better with the same build even though it runs it less efficiently because it simply receives less attention from the enemy. Now, there are going to be other people that come in here and suggest builds that are more to the current "meta" state of the game. It's up to you which one you choose.

The Timberwolf is very versatile and can accommodate alot of different loadouts. I prefer to use the TBR-S as the the base for my builds due to the jumpjet in the CT. One of my favourites at the moment is the TBR-S with 2 D torsos and TBR-S left arm and TBR-Prime right arm. Pack that with 4 x S-SRM6, 4 x C-ER Meds, BAP, TC1 with as much ammo as you can carry and you'll have one good skirmisher and light hunter. Alternatively you can swap the streaks for 4 standard SRM6 with bigger back up weapons.

My preferred build at the moment is a Gauss with 2,5 tons of ammo in the RT, and six ERML (CT, LT, 2X LA, 2X RA), a CT1 and as many DHS as possible.

Won the Champion T-Wolf during a event. As long time T-bolt driver, it works well for me.

The Tbr-A Left Torso Omni pod works well with any T-Wolf.

Been loving this build:

Though this newer build has been more popular as of late

If you want some kmdd for challenges: 4srm6, uac20, 4ersl. It can face of against a dire wolf and win, provided you can torso twist to spread damage. But, it gets shot down from anything further than about 200m so you need some patience and to know when to hang back.

I run mine 2x LRM15s with 2.5 tons of ammo to soften up my targets and provide support, 1x LPL for long range poking, and 4x ERMLs for brawling

Timberwolf A is my next clan mech. Going to be something like this.

12 armour on an arm containing a weapon and three DHS? Ballsy. I'd rather strip the legs some more. Nobody's ever specifically targeted the legs on my TBR, so that seems a little safer.

2 Large Pulse and 5 er mediums
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...9b892e2195964ee

You could drop one of the er mediums for a targeting computer or another heatsink, it tends to get hot in a brawl but you'll still get an alpha and have a decent follow up before needing to cool off. It also has the advantage of a lower profile due to having no missiles or the A side torso. The LPL are close to the cockpit so you can hill poke to a certain degree.

On really hot maps, this is great, 2 UAC10s and 5 er small

Those armor values are off... I think my ad blocker is messing with smurfy cuz adjusting armor always seem glitchy. Incidentally I'll have to reevaluate my build.

2LPL, 3MLas. Clan lasers run too hot nowadays. 2/4 builds run too hot to have consistent output, you need to have really good heat discipline to run 2/4. 2/3 is a good balance.

SRM brawlers are good too.

Whatever you do, DO NOT put LRMs on TBRs. The massive increase in hitbox is not worth it. Everytime I see LRM TBRs, I just tear their side torsos off

Metamechs.com is your friend.

Gman's builds are pretty much fully optimized for a general good player though there's still room for optimization on things like armor distribution according to your personal style.

Basically there are five consistently good tbr builds.

Gauss erppc
Gauss 2xlpl
Gauss 3xerll for long range
2xlpl 4xerml
Srm and er SL for short range

The short range one is the least versatile.

However, you have to also realize that MWO's hit registration is pretty bad and random. You are often not hitting the component that the games shows you hitting and sometimes your shots don't register at all.

Ballistics seem more reliable than lasers or erppc, so depending on how well weapons work for you, you may have better luck with c/uacs, etc.

Also, the effectiveness of builds depends on the tactics of your opponents. The top 5 usual tbr builds are designed to take on people who are good at shooting and hiding. If you are playing against easier opponents another build could actually work better.

Last time I ran my Timbie I ran 7 mpls, 2 in each arm and 3 in the torsos (1 per torso section). Then you fire them 4 and 3 on whatever gets in your way. It functions much like the Tbolt or Black Knight... Or the EBJ. The only downside is it's medium range, so you need to get in relatively close compared to LPLs or ERLLs.

Of course when I was mastering them both SRMs and LRMs were less than satisfactory weapons and I never have adjusted to the delay on Gauss (not helped by a mouse that is twitchy and can decide on it's own I'm not pressing down the button anymore). So laser vomit was the way to go.

A good mouse and a nice mice pad makes gameplay so much more rewarding. You owe it to yourself to fix that asap.

I like 4-5 c-ermlas and 1 c-gauss because lasers are hot...

You gotta lightent up on the armor though, because you want to fill up on heat sinks, and have at least 1 JJ.
