i remember back when they tried enabling collisions. many light mechs were stepped on, alot, and they died. much hilarity ensued. the fix was reverted in the very next patch.

how it should have worked. a heavy mech should be able to push the little mech out of the way. the amount of push depends on the difference in mass, a little mech can never push a big mech. secondarily the engine rating, mechs with bigger engines can push harder. its about a 3:2 ratio between mass and engine. if two mechs collide at high speed, they should bounce off of eachother and stumble a little (without falling over). collisions of any kind result in severe screen shake to encourage pilots not to run into each other. mech crunch should be reduced as much as possible, so you dont step on your ecm mech while trying to dodge a ppc, and if you do it doesn't die.

Part of why they removed collisions was that it was griefing mechanic. Ever been the last mech on your team, and had to watch as the 6 enemy mechs keep bouncing you around and tripping you every time you stand up until you finally die? Not fun.

Also, there were a few times where knocking down an Atlas would ragdoll it through the map, and crash the game.

If only there was some way they could calculate and implement how much damage a small fast object would be subjected to by ramming into a much larger, more massive object....or vice versa

Man it's too bad humanity has never figured out to do that.

A fun part of the collision mechanic was that Dragons were counted as weighing 100 tons for collision calculations, so Dragons could knock down pretty much anything. Dragon Bowling was a very powerful technique.

It was also hilarious to see a pack of lights knock each other over while trying to swarm a lone target.

Yes, and even then, it's what? 6 damage from an Atlas knocking you down? That's assuming all the surviving mechs are Atlas mechs?

You'd still need to get rammed around 20+ times to die, when you're in a medium mech. Still griefing.
