No. This is what I do. I can brawl, but there are better folks out there than me, so I leave it to them. What I am really good at, however, is driving people nuts. I have two mechs that I run that most people would absolutely hate but work with me and my special way of making people's life miserable. One is direct, the other is indirect.

My direct build is best for taking advantage of holes and keeping the fleas off the bigger guys. My indirect build, as long as people work with me, is a champ at stripping armor to allow the brawlers to be more successful.

The key to direct support is standing back at the brawler's flank and taking pot shots as needed, watching where he's hitting and following suit. You can also aim for cockpits. Sometimes that works. The key is to be very aware of your surroundings because your brawling buddy can't. If you play it right, you'll be appreciated. Play it wrong and you're a kill stealing jerk.

It's all about teamwork. Go with what you're good at.

I'm actually suprized no one brought up the 2x ac/2/2x uac/5 build. The ammo is a little on the low end but the really cool thing about this mech is you can spam ac/2's and play UAC roulette at the same time. The drawback is it's strength imo, inconsistant dps with the uac's usually will lead to someone stepping out to run at you if they notice a jam... but usually jams don't last that long and they don't notice the damage of the ac/2's building up. It's one of my personal favorite jaeger builds. allows both long range direct fire support and medium range punch. a quick double tap of the uacs with 2 ac/2's going on is 24 damage... it's like a long range ac/20 with more crit chances..... anywho textwall.end

If you can get the Firebrand, personally i run 2 ppc and 2x uac/5's on it... keeps the shake going and gives ya that burst damage so you don't need so much face time but, if you do get face time can usually get 60-80 damage built up in 5 seconds...depending on the uac jammage.
eh, if you use the JM6-S in pug play can also strap on 4 ML with dual gauss, cuts into the ammo but can get ya some extra punch sense most of the matches you'll end up in the 300m range with something.
