Firepower of assaults? Check.
Withstanding damage of assaults? Check.
3x faster than assaults? Check.
Reason to bring an Assault?)

Well pal here is what's weird your right but its only for some players when I get in a spider or Arctic Cheater I DIE DIE DIE and never get any kills you would think with even moderate skills I could do well? answer is NO!!!!!!
So I really think the players that are doing well in them have a hack they use along with the exploits and bugEness. This was proven to me in a CW game with _MS_ when a _MS_ player killed 4 guys in front of me I was the fifth victim watching as this players went round and round and round in his Arctic Cheater and never took any damage he never even turned yellow.
Reminds me of Playing MechWarrior4 Mercenaries when the hackers had Altered Variants where there mechs were in fact 200-300 tons on a35 ton mech chassis you just could no kill them along with using the speed-hack which it is known to work with MWO now.
Do you ever wonder why a player can be 300 meters away from you in a light on POLOR right after you spawn in like 10 seconds? =SPEED HACK seen it multiple times already this past 6 months.

Ok, maybe not, but the Arctic Cheetah is the only mech in the whole game that makes me nervous.

AC was the first mech I started with and the first I "mastered" in the skill tree (but still working on really mastering it in terms of the game!).. it's pretty versatile in its laser setup for different ranges, which is one of the reasons I liked it. Definitely a tough nut to crack since it can stay alive with one of its torsos blown up..
I hear the best way to deal with lights is to go for the legs, and that will probably make even more sense with the AC since it's so good at soaking up damage on the upper levels.
Remember all you really need from one of the heavies or assaults is one alpha to bring this mech to its knees. Against players that can sense what direction I'm going to try to pop around in or play patiently and wait for me, my AC just gets blown to hell if I'm not playing very carefully.

At best all I can do is pop an arm off em, or get grazing leg and torso shots.
Or its one of these, aim squarely at left torso, hits right torso. Aim for ct, hits leg.. what the ..
Nothing I do seems to be effective at actually hitting these little ********, and it pretty much goes for all fast lights as well.
Crosshairs straight on them, nothing of significance happens, it takes like 500% damage to even make a dent in these, and those are the bad players..
PGi needs to get to the bottom of this warping hitbox bullcrap.
I give up.
And the first person to say "use streaks".. you get the D.
FIRST RULE OF FIGHTING A LIGHT MECH:
GO FOR THE LEGS!

This...
With lasers, you essentially have to strafe the legs. They can twist upper torso like crazy and spread laser damage over 90% of the mech.
When you land a gauss round or a ballistic shell, or even a volley of SRMs, they lose something, or their armor changes from yellow/untouched to red/sneeze and it is gone. If you can land a double gauss on a light mech, that component is now stripped of armor in almost every case.
Is it harder to hit them with single projectile weapons? Yes.
Can it be done? Certainly...drive a light for a bit and stumble across a pilot who is a good shot in a Gauss Jager or something similar. It is certainly humbling.

lolz
i find this hilarious, you have any proof? Also, no name and shame dude. Better remove those units names if you dont want to be a mod to nuke your post.
Opinion is not fact, as much as you want it to be. Please show me ONE video, picture anything where some altered the SEVER and made there mech go faster.
Hitreg can be wonky but i dont have huge issues with it either, ACH are just tough lil SOB's.
I can remember the day before clans came along when the FS9 had these same threads made about it and IMO the FS9 is pretty darn tank as well. Just doesnt have the Cxl which can make or break a game for you in one shot. Literally.

^^ Either you were dumb and actually believed what that link claims, or you just enjoy ultra hard mode.
I only put an SRM 4 and 4 medium lasers on my assault mechs too

My advice is this: Pilot a Clan Streakboat, or learn how to lead with AC20s. They'll leave you alone.
Also, aim for the hips.

Like its namesake, good cheetah pilots will focus on the stragglers and run away if multiple mechs are shooting back. Just scare them off, make them waste time running around and whittle them down every time they pop up. If the Cheetah decides to do face time, then they usually die quickly to decent aim. Again, don't be caught out on your own.
Most MWO pilots are solo players who just happens to be stuck with 11 other people. Few think about positioning other than 'find enemy' and even fewer look at their mini-map during shoot outs. In these environment, it's no wonder Cheetahs do so well. In CW, where people instinctively stay closer, Cheetahs are far less dangerous. The high dmg score from most Cheetahs are from farming back row noobs or people who doesn't pay attention to their damage direction indicator.

Until you meet an assault or a heavy player with a 50+ point alpha that knows how to actually aim and shoot.
Damn competent players...they make Light mechs unplayable.
Thankfully, they're few and far between at Tier 1.

As for the Arctic Cheeters, they're no different than the Spider when it was released. Borked up torsos that never register a damned thing. It is fair, though, for some reason.

So are Wolfhounds. The wolves can't jump and most would say the firepower is somewhat inferior(not by much) but it isn;t just the one mech. heck I have seen some Panthers eat a lot of dmg.
And you know, I am ok with some of the lights taking plain ol' raw dmg to take down, vs getting insta gibbed by one lucky grazing shot.

I just never have much of an issue facing down cheetahs. BAP negates their ECM and I aim at their "pelvis" area which seems to help a lot with hitreg that others seem to have problems with. They're a great light, but that's it, a great light. Nothing else.
The hitboxes on a few lights (including IS) could be reworked though

IMO, after fighting the FS9's for months and whack-o warping time Spiders before them, the cheeto wasn;t anything new. Well i mean it was new but not actually something new as far as fighting them... well you know what I mean. A tougher cookie to crack then a Jenner, but not really more dangerous firepower wise.
I agree some lights could stand some hitbox voodoo rework.
