On the Kintaro -- I love it.

With a few considerations taking place during pre-production or early production, the Griffin and Kintaro would fulfill several entirely different niches.

As is, the Kintaro still fulfills some niches that the Griffin does not even sans quirks. The Kintaro is better suited for higher missile alphas. The center torso -- while the doors are shut on the two variants with doors -- have 10% stronger CTs. Arm-mounted SRMs can track and nail moving targets with greater precision and reaction speed, especially against lights. Kintaros tend to tank enemy LRMs a little better as far as side torsos, though this seems to be due to being smaller (as missiles are more prone to going over its shoulders).

That reason was -- somebody above Alex told him how to do his scale after he drew.

If you go by the scale of the small details in this image -- you can see the Catapult was gonna be MUCH smaller, and someone supervising him said "Nope, we're gonna make them BIG."

Yup.... and dear god...that scale...that CPLT is like a Winnebago with Guns. How many people are you inviting to hang out in the Jacuzzi?

The Jenner on the other hand is perfectly reasonable.

BTW; there is a reason my WVR is named Brunhilde.....

I loather Sparky most of any Griffin. Though oddly I can't get the 2N to work for me if my life depends on it. 1N and 3M are fine for me.. so you'd think the 2N would be a snap.....

You'd think. 3M was the only one I could get to work for me.

The first mech I ever spent a lot of time in was the KTO-18. It was a trial mech when I started, so since I had a bunch of XP on it and some good matches, i bought one after my cadet bonus. I used to run it near stock(stock for the trial build at least), something like 5x LRM 5, 2 ML, XL, BAP.

It was a fun mech for me at the time, being new to the game, but once I discovered direct fire mechs, I never looked back.

High 5! It was the first mech I bought!

I would challenge you to a 1v1 but you're probably better than me and I prefer my reality to yours, anyway. Anyway, the Wolverine has a non-nonsense kind of "I'm about to push your crap in" sort of style. It doesn't look like a B-29 Superfortress crapped out a pair of legs. It looks like an actual combat machine. Call it utilitarian if you'd like but it is right up my alley.

I really don't understand the MW:O scaling. If you look at the Mist Lynx, you'd swear that they could only fit in a Russion Monkey Cosmonaut in there or freaking Willow Offgood (the only true Hobbit, btw) when you compare it to anything 5 tons heavier. Even the Locust looks like it has a bigger cockpit. The scaling is pure space magic.

Depends on whether you are trying to be a lore nerd or not :P

A lot of people take the GRF-2N for the ECM, which honestly isn't its selling point, its the fact it can run 4 ASRM6 with an XL which the 3M can't do. It's nice for lighter drops where being able to drop that much damage at once can be important for dropping an important light, its more snapshot friendly than the 3M.

If the GRF is just a B29 that crapped out legs.... that would make the WVR...a Brick that crapped out.....crap?

I mean Alex doesn't miss often, but the WVR is the blandest piece of junk he has ever put out. And it's a shame because the lore art, the WVR is actually pretty cool looking.

run that build. 270m max build shave never worked for me. I also don't do small laser vomit well. Pug crops...you usually don't get enough help to push, and a single Medium pushing usually is dead, regardless of skill, and if you hang back in cover til you get a chance, usually half your team is dead with you doing little to help... thus I prefer mid range builds.

I just find those extreme short range builds far too limited for the chaos of PUGlandia unless it's mated to a 140+ kph chassis.

Hey everyone. So I just picked up a Kintaro because I was looking for something unusual to master. I have to say, this thing is pretty killer. I'm averaging about 400 damage per match in the thing with 2-3 solo kills. I've stared down a King Crab and won. I've charged a fresh Timber Wolf and torn him to shreds without losing much armor. I've walked over hills into enemy fire and brought down a Hellbringer and a Battlemaster before the enemy could bring me down. This mech is great. I love it. Why does nobody play this little monster? I've been wrecking face with it. It's quite possibly my new favorite Medium mech. If it's not THE favorite, it's certainly one of my favorites. Anyone here care to discuss their experiences in the Kintaro? I'm running mine with 2 medium lasers, 3 SRM6, 2 SSRM2, and an XL 300 Engine.

Kintaro is old school.

When it released it had some pretty bad CT hit box issues.

They mostly fixed that.

All I know is back in the day I ran my " God Damned Golden Boy" as I lovingly call it basically just like the promo video for it's release, with ALL THE SRM's. It's hot as ****, and you have to be a ninja, but when you tag along with your Fatlas pal and sneak around the corner while Fatlas has some poor sod distracted and PHOOM BABY DIE!! and then watch all the mech bits blow off and the poor sod of a target frantically twist away and throw it in reverse... many lulz were had. Nothing quite like 70-80+ (depends on how hot you like it) alphas out of a 55 ton mech for "unexpected butthurt" lulz.

Had several amusing games in the others too. Played with a lick of sense, they can make decent LRM platforms, but make sure you take enough ML or MPL to be a reasonable threat besides so you can use some of your armor for good purpose as the match unfolds. I mean nothing says n00b like a strictly LRM no tag Kintaro LRM boat. But they can use a couple smaller size launchers with 3 or so ML or MPL as direct fire to a pretty good effect if you stay somewhat mobile.

Honestly I think mostly salty tryhards have kept the chassis down. It isn't as bad as most would tell you, it just has competition at the loadouts and ultra min/max tryhards will grasp at the minute advantages of other chassis to claim the Kintaro obsolete.

Not all LRM but don't use tag because why? If you are traveling behind team members while still getting own locks how often do you actually get the benefit of TAG?

Have to try the Kintaro-18 with and without TAG to see if hit rate goes up. Be interesting. It technically should, right?

I think the last time I ran a KTO was....the Launch Party tournament? Streaks and LLs, if I recall. Me and Shazarad were the last standing, did some decent dmg, but our team did your usual Herpaderp epic fail, leaving us in quite the deficit to begin with.

You've got it all wrong, Bishop. The Wolverine is a blue collar lunch pale kind of mech. You don't need it to be pretty. It just needs to get the job done. Plus, let's be honest. What is scarier? A Wolverine or some horse that corn holed a chicken? What do you think, bub?

The Archer-5S actually is a nice heavy step-up from the Kintaro, I find. Couple of large lasers + 5x LRM 5, or pile on a bunch of mediums. Can move 80kph or so and still pack a respectable payload for bombarding the heck out of a target and opening holes with the lasers.

As someone who has Kintaro's, well had, there are new mechs that do the same job better. Ohh you want to spam LRM5s, Maddog is your choice. You want to SRM brawl, Griffin or Crow has you beat. Ohh so now you want to zombie, why? You're in an oversized CT mech and Cents do that jobs better.

Gotta agree to this. If you want to run a STD in a Medium, basically there are two times to do it: You need to pack an AC20 in the Torso, or you are in a HBK. Even the Centy doesn't make sense to run STDs in anymore. (And they were really overrated as Zombies even back with the old CT hitbox)

But KTOs are not particularly tanky or great at spreading damage (not horrible at it anymore, just not great) thus seems an odd choice to STD.

I have all three non-Hero Kintaro's and I still play them. They're not top tier, but I just like the way they look (silly, I know, consider I can't see how they look from the cockpit). KTO-18 for LRM5 spam. KTO-19 for SRM6 spam. And KTO-20 I have 3 lg lasers.

Back when I mastered the KTO's, I believed STD was the only way to go, at least in PUGs, because those torso's are really squishy, those high shoulders do it no justice in the hitbox department and make XLs a very risky proposition.

I actually really enjoyed leveling up the Kintaro, it's a very capable mech and fun to play. I no longer own any because I dislike the look of how the weapon mounts were handled, not to be confused with weapon placement. It's shallow to just go by appearance I suppose but there are other good medium mechs with missile/energy hardpoints which look less duct-taped together.

it's been a long time, but I think the consensus when I ran em was all the torsos were squishy, CT not as bad as original but still pretty much...might as well run fast and pack as much missiles as possible.

But that was a loooooong time ago. Nowadays it's a coin toss between them and Trebuchets for rarest mech in MWO.
