Haven't played in about a year and a half, haven't patched in about as long. Some of you might remember me. In any case, what would people who've played the whole time describe as the major upgrades/changes in the past year and a half?

Think I have to get a Marauder (that's what's drawing me back)

Other than the balance swing. Nothing.

Really hasn't been any major changes or upgrades. Pretty much still the same exact game you left but with a bunch more mechs.

A year and a half would have been before the release of the community warfare game mode. Mixed opinions on it.

I think a year and a half was before the release of the current mechlab client and certainly before the smurfy like interface (much improved usability in my opinion).

Lots of new mechs for both clans and IS including customizable clan mechs in the IIC pack ... generally considered to be glass cannons in many ways.

I bought the $20 Marauder pack and really like it. I also pre-ordered the archer since it looks like fun but I haven't bought any of the other unseen.

New Polaris map that I consider one of the best but opinions vary. I think also Veridian Bog and another map may be new in that time frame.

Lots of fiddling with balance. Quirks (and quirk adjustments when they make mistakes) on IS mechs to try to make up the difference a bit with clan weapons. Lasers are currently one of the more popular weapons since they are hit scan and you don't need to lead targets.

In game VOIP was added but I think that was more than a year and a half ... not sure.

Introduction of PSR and tiers for pilot ranking and matchmaking since too many folks complained about the Elo system.

Game mode and map are now selected by pre-game voting instead of hard-selected game mode and random maps.

There has been a fairly steady stream of incremental development ... nothing earth-shattering or ground breaking.

However, MWO is still, fundamentally, the same game as in closed beta. 15 minute matches with two teams of opponents with more or less equal ranking. If you enjoyed the game before, you will likely enjoy it now. If you got bored before, you will likey get bored after a while again ... however, if you enjoy the time in between it is probably worthwhile Posted Image (I just take breaks and play something else when I get tired of the rinse and repeat nature of MWO ... and I keep hoping that they will eventually add features that encourage longer term play ... but I have been waiting for that for 3 years now Posted Image ).

P.S. I think the first two posters have very short memories ... or are just generally down on the game :)

other than more mechs, a map, horribad CW not worth wasting your time on, nothing has changed.

The game is on the same sell us mechs without providing any compelling content treadmill going on about 4 years now.

I remember you from Mektek ( you won't recognize this name), how ya' been buddy?

And the game has not changed at all really. Just new mechs to play with, and a couple new maps.

Also, the Marauder is a very good 75 ton chasis. The way its side torsos are, its incredibly tanky. Just don't put an XL engine in it.

Welcome back Verybad...yes I remember you from MWO and also from Mektek. Here are some highlights:

*Voting for the map.
*Steam launch
*Some of the Unseens are now in the game.
*Some IIC mechs now in the game.
*Brand new map, and 3 of the old maps have been redone to larger size, some destructible environments like trees, and simulated real-time Time of Day progression.
*New Spectator tools for Private Matches.
*New test maps only available in Private Matches.
*You can change your name once for free via the website.
*Brand new semi-single player Academy (under Tutorials) that includes some A.I.
*New smurfy-like Mechlab.
*New CBill & XP award system.
*New Cockpit and Camo selection screens (including previewing Warhorns in the Mechlab).
*In-game VOIP.
*Ability to report players in-game.
*Group tonnage limits.
*MASC.
*Pilot Skill Ratings.
*All mechs now have a weapon visualization pass.
*Mech portraits showing in Mechlab.
*Regional Servers.
*Crash reporting tool.
*Several new CW maps.
*New Invasion Game Mode for CW.
*Looking For Group button.
*In-game Titles and Badges.

I love including lists like these because it makes those that say there is no new content or improvements look silly.

Aside from a map or two you didn't list any actual meaningful content. CW is an utter borefest and should not be considered acceptable content at all. I would consider someone who thinks this list as being content as silly since when you really break down most of those things they don't truly do anything for gameplay. The game is essentially the same as it ever was since 4 years ago.

I mean be serious....a crash reporting tool, tonnage limits? considered content?! LOL. Like I said most your list is not even content.

He very well might be bitter, but you only have to be honest to state that most of that expanded list isn't content.

Straw man...you can't refute that progress has been made so you attempt to distract by attacking the definition of content.

I'm sorry, where on the OP does it even mention the word "content"? I see this:

Content or not, those ARE changes.

Lol ... I hope Russ didn't actually say that in the townhall ... it would be like history repeating itself. Other than that, I haven't herard any specific timeline on that feature and PGI has been much better at NOT giving specific dates for features.
