Quickplay Ready Button - Why?

It's literally a button most of us click obsessively that does absolutely nothing. If its state is sent to the server, it's a waste of bandwidth and processing cycles.

But for Quickplay, clearly PGI doesn't care if you're ready or not, the match is starting 10 seconds after all players are connected. And anyway, I find a much better indicator of team ready status is who is moving and who isn't when the match starts. Half of Alpha and Charlie lances not moving, yeah this is going to be just super.

They changed the code to a 10 second count down that starts when the last person connects, making the button pointless But they never bothered to remove the button for some reason.

i could disconnect at that point and start a new match but i still play it out to the end, you know, just for fun

Yes, PGI originally grossly miscalculated the percentage of players who click Launch then wander off to get drinks, go to the bathroom, let the dog out, etc.

Got to where I'd just sit there and let the timer count down. Then at 1-2 seconds left I'd ready up. Another fun thing was to pretend not to have a button at all and watch the troubleshooting anguish.
