The Mad Dog is now built, striking fear in the hearts of those poor Inner Sphere mechwarriors...
Spoiler

In all the built went well, although a few of the more fiddly bits did not work as designed. Some parts are just too small to reasonably roll/fold.

The Timberwolf texturing is coming along nicely. If I get time tonight I'll post up the Mad Dog on my site.

Enjoy,
Tirick

One of the reasons I love to have models in scale with one another is that you can really get a scope of how big some things really are. I just finished building BLaaR's Mechwarrior 4 model of the Overlord-Class Dropship (available on papermodelers.com in the download section). I rescaled it to map scale (1:1000), and show it with the scale mechs.

Also, a friend was kind enough to grab me an Introductory Box set of the Battletech game while at GenCon. So, I can finally show you the new models next to their rescaled counterparts (for the Atlas and the Catapult, at any rate). 'Model' scale is 1:285 I believe, but as with any miniature, the standard is probably adjusted to fit the game play area.

Tirick

The pic with the mechs and the drop ship must be the single best paper model piccy have ever seen. Your building skills are amazing.

As you said, you really get a feel how big things are once you actually build them to scale. I am amazed that the drop ship landing pods are so evenly spaced on the map................co-incidence ? Or did you work it out like that ?

Once again superb work. Thank you for posting this.

PS : No wonder I did not scale the drop ship to 1/40 :D I just made it as big possible yet still the biggest parts will fit on a A4 page.

Thank you BLaaR! No I didn't scale it intentionally to fit. I merely looked up the height on Sarna and set the Pepakura scale to the corresponding mm (134 I think). The 6-leg configuration helps with the coincidence though.

A 1:40 dropship would be fantastic (and huge).

Damn, especially the dropship photo looks extremely good. Now I am in the mood to do such stuff as well, but I am sure it is harder than it looks.

Looking at the images, can you even touch the small models without breaking them? :>

The Paper/Glue combination is surprisingly sturdy, although I won't let my 5 yr old touch them. The dropship is a great model, and a good intro to paper modeling, I heartily recommend it.

Well, it has been a while (I'd love to blame MWO for that, but in reality I don't find it currently that engaging. I blame ArenaNet instead, I think I've dumped 400+ hours since August into Guild Wars 2), but I've finally finished the textures for the Timberwolf. I have yet to unfold it, but I've deliberately designed this for ease of building, so I have few worries. I should have it done in a few days and I'll post again once I am complete.

My ink cartridge exploded, so I will not be building a prototype before posting the unfold (along with textures) up on my site.

these are real sweet. there is something awesome about looking down at dozens of mechs.. like seeing them from the watchful eye of an Ilkhan..

Two thumbs up ;)

oh and your Marauder is rad by the way. seriously seriously cool - and given the infinitesimally small scale: extremely awesome :)

It took far too long to get to, but the Timberwolf is now added to my site catalogue. I've changed the site layout fairly substantially, but it should be easy enough to navigate to the Battletech set.

Now, onto my City Walls set (1:1000), which is in the final texture stages. I hope to have that one released within the week.

Enjoy,
Tirick
