And yes, you are right. There is obvious imbalance in this game: 1) Big maps gimp slow 'Mechs, but small ones don't gimp fast ones 2) Maps, that lack cover, gimp brawler, but maps with lots of cover don't gimp snipers.

This makes no sense. Small maps gimp light mechs (albeit less) because they lack room to get away from the enemy once discovered.

Maps with lots of cover DO gimp snipers, just as open maps cause problems for brawlers to close. More cover gives the brawler a better opportunity to get closer with less damage.

I think part of the fun is to adapt your gameplay to suit the non-optimal build for the map you get. For Example, I've had more memorable wins in Alpine with SRM and SPL mechs than with Gauss, ERLL and LRM mechs combined.

Ive always found I can get whatever map I like just by running a loadout that is least suited for it.

Time to use my SRM LB10X brawler! *rolls dice* damn, Polar Highlands...
Time to use my LL Stalker! damn, Terra Therma...

It's part of the fun really. Trying to make builds that work on a variety of maps, or trying to make a narrow build work outside of it's intended drop location

You mean like every single sane commander would do before dropping Mechs on a battlefield?
Preposterous!! Posted Image

Of COURSE this would be a good thing. A normal thing. A fair thing.
Hot builds for cold maps.
Cold builds for hot maps.
Brawl builds for brawl maps.
Snipe builds for big maps (or surprise rush-brawl builds nevertheless, hrhr)

Would be the most normal thing in the world. Logically, lore-wise, everything.

I very much like the idea with the variants.
Thumbs up!

It would also allow to pick a proper camo for a map (white for ice, etc.).
Currently you apply a nice jungle camp and land on an ice map, or vice versa.

And after having provided ALL those things, who does the (rolled) Losing Team get to blame then? ;)

Nope. Will lead to 1 map wonder builds where people bring hot mechs to cold maps because they know they can always get away with it. You can almost already do that now with map voting

^^
pretty much

The randomness of the map encourages players to build well-rounded mechs instead hyper-specialized mechs designed to fit in one environment and one environment only.

When you sign up for the military, you're handed a rifle and THEN told where to go, not the other way around. In this game you are playing for a military in a military campaign.
