Wave 3 is much better because all mechs are useful.

for that ether get the bottom half of Clans (wave 1), Kit Fox (a support Mech or sniper), and Summoner (oversized jumping medium) are anti meta, nova (jumping laser boat) may become great after the rescale but only time will tell, Dire is top tier meta even if it is worthless in my hands due to lack of speed and agility,
or as you said Wave 2, the Hellbringer is the only popular Mech from Wave 2, the Myst Lynx suffers from lack of hardpoints and a lot of fixed equipment, the Ice Ferret has a hard point shortage, too large an engine, no Endo, no option for ECM or Jumpjets, I have been unable to make those 2 work, the HBR is great, the Gargoyle does not have enough tonnage, but is similar speed and agility to the Clan heavies and can take a lot of small weapons.
in my opinion the wave1 Mechs are not bad just unpopular but unfortunately, also in my opinion so others may disagree, the wave 2 Light and Medium are not good.

if i was to do Clan wave 3 i'd just ala carte the Shadow Cat.

Ah, in that case, I would recommend the third tier. The Hellbringer certainly has its fans and is the best of the wave 2 mechs. When the Mist Lynx first came out, I was always losing my arms and, therefore, all my firepower before dying. I think they tried addressing the arm hitboxes somewhat but it's been so long since I've used it that I don't know if it worked. It won't be easy, but you can probably get the Mist Lynx to work.
I've heard tales of success with the Ice Ferret but never experienced it. It just lacks the ability to pack a meaningful punch. Anything it can do can be done faster with a smaller hitbox and the ability to jump using a Panther.

Ice ferret was a bit tougher to master, but speedy and laser/srms worked.
Hellbringers are great heavies.
Gargoyles are tricky to get right, but once you find your place with them, they tend to work. Would say if you want to buy the pack then go ahead. Its your money after all!!☺

Wave 3 is the only clan wave worth buying in my opinion. The EJ is a beast, its a tie between it and hellbringer as 2nd best clan heavy. Timberwolf just has it beat. Executioner is different (and beastly as well in the right hands), but not worth buying unless you just got a soft spot for it. The shadowcat is underrated, I have outstanding games in it on a regular basis. Light pilots (especially raven pilots who aren't used to the speed of many other lights) tend to do well in it once they get used to the MASC. You already have the AC so no words there.

Already have timbers, yeah i'd sell the non special AC. I have issues with the EJ, that stems form coreing dumb LRM EJ's. I do have the Raven, i'm a big light person.

Most of the good mechs in wave 1 are in the very expensive slots and wave 2, outside of the hellbringer, is forgettable.
Buy wave 3 with $$ if you really want to then get the HBR with cbills.

For Wave 2 Forget about every thing except the Loki (Hellbringer). If you wanna try them, get them for C-Bills.
If you are looking for some good Medium or Heavy Clanner, without having to buy the very high Wave 1 Packs, check the Steam Specials (these are the same as the formerly available "Performance Packs"):
Mad Cat (Timber Wolf C) and Ryoken (Stormcrow Prime) are available there as (S)-Variants (30% C-Bill boost) along with an IS countepart (Thunderbolt with the Timber and Hunchback with the Stormcrow), a big bag of Premium Time, some colors and a Camo-Pattern (Bloody Bones on Black) and loads of C-Bills and MCs.
You only get one variant with these Packs, so you have to get the missing two with c-bills for Mastery. But they are cheaper then the a la carte choices and get a big bunch of extras.
You can just install MWO over Steam, Login with your existing account, purchase the DLCs. When the content is infused, it's available off Steam too (if you do not like to use Steam for MWO in general).
Cheers

The Ice Ferret is the Clan Cicada. A Heavy Light Mech. And the Gargoyle can be comparable to a Victor or Zeus, although it suffers a bit from people sometimes mistaking it for an Atlas.
If you put them side by side:
Cheetah wins in the Light Category, although the Lynx is a better support mech.
Medium i'd give to the Ice Ferret. Yes the Shadowcat is a good and solid Sniper and Poker, but the Ferret has more utility and its speed means its a great Light Mech Hunter and heavy Harasser. The Shadowcat is a very passive mech. It makes up for the lower speed with ECM and Jump Jets. Shadowcat is in the name.. you want to be an ambusher and sniper. Ice Ferret is more active... running down enemies.. playing as a heavy Light.
Heavy depends on what you want. Hellbringer is an ECM Flanker, while EBJ is a heavy Weapon Platform/Ambusher. EBJ hits harder.. Hellbringer has more utility and i am partial to the Hellbringer. It reminds me a lot of my Wolverine and you can make it a quite fearsome brawler that can sneak up on people and to me the EBJ is more of a fire support platform.
Assault i would also put down as undecided. Both mechs suffer from having their weapons in their arms. The Gargoyle moves 87kph.. which is IS Medium Mech speed, this makes the Gargoyle a great rapid response Assault and allows you to Flank with it. The Executioner on the other hand, is a great finisher and fire Support. Neither Mech is particularly good at receiving damage, you can't roll your damage effectively as all your guns are in your arms on both of them and for that alone i'd say the price goes to the Gargoyle.
They have a similar weapon load, because the executioner loses quite a bit tonnage with all those Jump Jets and the Masc system, although the Executioner has more weapons.
So ultimately it comes down to do you want a bit more Speed or a bit more Armor. 20m jump jets... is better than nothing, but also nothing to write home about.
That being said... the 3rd pack is the better value for the money. You get more colors, heavier mechs.. and while the 2nd pack isn't in terms of which mechs it contains. If i probably would go with the 3rd one based on the goodies that come with the pack, despite me feeling that the 2nd one has the better/more interesting mechs.
this has me torn between wave 2 or 3.

For wave 2, I dont care for the Ice Ferret or the Hellbringer, but the Mist Lynx and Gargoyle are really good mechs. If you buy both wave 1 and 2, you get the Maddog set too, which I personally love that mech. Even though some dont and call it the poor man's timberwolf, its a pretty good mech.
As for wave 3, the Arctic Cheetah (arctic cheater as most call it) is an absurdly good mech. The shadowcat is hit or miss depending on how you play it. The Ebon Jaguar is a pretty good mech, but a lot of pilots try to brawl when they should only skirmish with it. The Executioner is a pretty decent mech, but its all based on your weapon preferences. What makes the EXE stand out is that it has a MASC system. Not very many mechs in the game have that.
If you are looking for a single bundle to put your money on, I would recommend Clan Wave 1, thats a lot of mechs that you can really play around with. But if you are playing with a budget, then I would say that Clan Wave 3 will give you the best bang for your buck.

I have some mechs from Clan wave 1 so that's why i'm avoiding it. *also way to pricey for the higher bundles* I have the Arctic cheetah already brought with Cbills. I was eyeing wave 2 more since i don't have any mechs from that bundle.

well considering clan wave 1 gets you twice as many mechs compared to wave 2 or 3, it is going to cost more. But if you already have mechs from the other waves, they just get wave 2 then. No need to dance around the topic if you already owned mechs from the previous packages. Its not like any mech package is a 'bad' package, while some mechs are better than others, there is no mech that is irredeemable (except for maybe the awesome, that thing is a walking barnyard).
