Sadly, most of the varients are gonna suck unless they get some massive quirks...
I would have bought the ultimate pack if there was incentive... But I think Ill just buy the basic, and the reinforcement pack (if I can), because I dont like the poor hard points on the other varients... Especially the heros...
If you're looking at them from a metamech perspective, you're probably correct. Based on the hardpoint layout they are unlikely to beat out the BJ for best IS 45 tonner.
The target audience for these is the nostalgia crowd. Still, the ECM and MASC variants are bringing something different to the table that might make them more viable than you give them credit for.
Also, while 45 tonners aren't necessarily anyone's idea of tanky, the arms might just be bulky enough to twist off some torso bound damage. Unfortunately most of your firepower is in your arms so that could be a problem. There is a potential issue with the CT hitbox, as it looks like the CT juts out a bit.
So it can be fast enough and stealthy enough to be a hit and run skirmisher, with a lot of emphasis on the running. Barring extensive structure and/or armor quirks it probably won't do well with much face time, like most 45 and under mechs.
