So, I've been using this card since I got it in the summer of 2015 no problems... Tonight when I start the client up I get a popup saying Cryengine : Unsupported video card detected.

What the actual eff is this? I've been playing it with it no problem. The only difference is that I got a mic headset and plugged it in earlier.

Did you try priming the flagoogenploppen?

Im going to guess two things,

Maybe you got a driver update and its not working as it should be. If so try rolling back your drivers.

Or

Your built in mainboard video card is working at the same time and this is what is causing it to error out. Try disabling it in your bios.

.. Did you try removing the headset, rebooting, and relaunching the game just to confirm?

Custom PC, my iGPU is always disabled... driver was working fine last night.

I launched the game anyways and it worked fine. No problems, its just I got a warning message and I was worried.

had this with the R9 290xs sometimes. Usually restarting the comp or the game fixes it. One time I had to run the repair tool. Dunno why it does it.

I had your same issue on my last Radeon card. My solution was to switch to nVidia.

Never had an issue since then.

I've had this happen as well. It's just some sort of false positive bug, doesn't affect your ability to play the game and only displays very rarely (I've only seen it pop up twice).

It's definitely not "AMD vs Nvidia" that is your problem since it worked fine previously. It's a failure or degradation of some component in your computer. It could be your power supply, graphics card, or motherboard...all would give similar results. Unfortunately there's no easy way to diagnose. Just try running each at lower speeds, or replacing components one by one.

In this situation I would typically look at your PSU first, especially if it's not a trusted name brand. A cheap PSU will work fine for a few months and then degrade to the point where all sorts of random problems occur. The same can happen to any electronic component (graphics card, motherboard) but usually it's the PSU that has the most impact and fails first.

I have found that utilizing any 'audio features' on a graphics card is more pain than it's worth. Just in case you were using the HDMI audio crap that comes with some of the gfx cards made lately.

Always been a big fan of team Red. ATI has never let me down though I do not recognize 'AMD' as making graphics cards, only processors.

And cheapo ones at that.

If i remember correctly, I once had to fix a .cfg file as well ... I'll see if I can find what it was.
