I don't know if the devs or Russ read suggestions or actually ACTUALLY visit the forums anymore, but gotta post this

Why don't you guys do a simple "Invite a Friend" program with referral codes?

I'm a salesman by profession.

I keep inviting my friends to try the game. If I gave them a code that assured them something in-game after their cadet bonus, like a mech, a paintjob, MC or anything just for trying it, and I recieved something for multiple referrals it would be an incentive to spread the word of mouth of the game.

I was on another forum and discovered people actually LIKE MWO it just that it isn't popular because it's "not finished". You know it's not finished, Faction Warfare is barebones and that should be the meat of the game. It doesn't even have ranked matches.

But the core gameplay itself is unique and no other game is even CLOSE to MWO ambience, detail and gameplay or lore. It's sad to see a game I like very much is not getting recognition becausethe bad rep it got years ago.

Because it IS a good game, but just NOW.

So embrace your customers and trust them to help you spread the business.

Ah, my friend, don't you know that PGI doesn't really care about marketing? Correct me if I'm wrong, bu It seems to me that PGI simply does not care about marketing.

Have you EVER seen a banner or poster, or online commercial for the game, like ANYWHERE?

I live in Croatia.. and I don't know about you guys, but my browser is always full with some Eve Online or Travian commercials, and I see World of Tanks commercials on TV every now and then..

MWO?

Nope.. as far as most Croatians are concerned, the game does not exist. When I tell my friends what I'm playing, they are like "what? Just play WOT man"

Maaaybe if they invested some in marketing, the game would have a bigger player base... but no.. apparently, STEAM is all the marketing they would ever need..

What did they do with that (frankly misleading) CW video they made? I mean they obviously put forth the effort and money to make what is essentially a long commercial for their "end game content", only to put it on the forum (a forum that they do not actively engage with) for a week and then never mention it again. Why would a company do that?

Why put forth the money to create something like that and then NOT leverage that effort as a means of advertising their product to someone other than the people already using their product?

PGI does some odd things, but their fixation with seemingly being as inefficient as possible is just boggling to me.

If you will excuse me now, I have to go play the PTS now so I can test the latest version of core game play mechanics because apparently the last three passes with it just weren't cumbersome enough.

I messaged Tina about this idea & she said she'd bring it up in their next marketing meeting.

So, here's hoping.

NPE has been Lostech since forever.

At this point, keeping it that way would be the "optimal PGI solution".

Well hopefully its more like the WoT version where you get rewarded for inviting a new player & also for making a purchase.

I would think the hard part of retaining new players comes from the game format being so different, the first thing to get used to is the cockpit, unfortunately many people cannot function unless they have 3pv so this will itself filter off a number of people who are basically incapable. i am here because I liked simulator games from the 80's & 90's, I would not play if it were 3pv (at all!) but this view is the minority. I am ok with the exclusivity.
Then you have to learn to play and this is a task too, i tried one match when I started and then disappeared to the training grounds for the next week to figure it all out. There is a lot to learn outside of how to pilot the mech, how to build, what FF & endo are and when to use them, how to manage heat in combat, how to stay alive both in combat and map placement, how to kill efficiently map knowledge and I could go on.
This wont be 1,2,3 go for most people but it is the skill required, the exclusiveness and the satisfaction of getting it right that make the game both enjoyable and what it is, these should be promoted as saleable concepts.
Now this might be a little strange but to grow the game I would make it harder to participate, things which are earned are valued compared to things which can be just had or taken, so if you could not buy a mech for mc(any mech) until you had purchased say 3 mechs for cbills the only people who would spend money are those which had figured out the game to a degree and these people will stay because they earned this.

This would be a bad idea, financially and even from a player perspective. I have some people in my friends who "buy" into games they like from day one. If they see a game they possibly will like (be it f2p or pay2play) they buy a package and if there's a top package they buy that.
Those guys would start with a mastery pack or that steam pack or whatever, something in the range of 50-150 dollar, depending of the game. Sure, that's not your everyday player, those are guys and girls between 30 and 40 and have more money than time.
Telling these people they need to grind for a while before they can buy something... yeah, not a good idea.
