I have Frontiernet. Want a laugh? Visit Frontier Communications Facebook page.

I pay 100 bucks a month for 4MB/s DL and 128K UL speeds, and a basic land line phone. Not a typo: 128K upload.

I average 250K download and about 120k upload.

I will be starting this patch after work tomorrow and playing some Zelda: Twilight Princess HD on my WiiU. CYA Wednesday.

Might want to wait until next week to start that download. Posted Image

Well there goes the next 3 days of playing time while it patches (on a 1.1mps connection).

Well, this is a useful reminder that I need to leave my PC on overnight tomorrow, anyway.

You know, one of these days Google fiber or Verizon FIOS is going to come to my city and convince Time Warner that there is such a thing as competition. (I live in the capitol of my state and the best internet I can possibly get is 50/5 for like $200 a month, I get 10/1 for ~$40)

By the time I get home from work Steam will have patched the game for me.

What if I told you... not everyone is spoiled by high speed and uncapped internet connections?

There will be some pain, and then there will be so much pleasure.

Good point, I didn´t think of that, don´t ask me why.... I´ll just try it when they´re here.... Posted Image

You can already see the difference between newer and older mechs. Say look at the Direwolf and compare it to the Stalker, the textures are much better

Not really. I'll likely never see the benefit of these wonderful 2k textures. Thankfully, I'll not really experience the pain either.

I tweeted Russ about settings, and got a quick reply:

@russ_bullock - Hey Russ, will the 2k textures only be visible at certain Texture settings, for example, High and Very High only?

@kevin_jack1 - yes - patch notes will outline I think high or very high

So, fear not, Potato Overlords.

Meh. Just a graphical change. I prefer the ones that are tangible and substantive like gameplay and maps.

There goes my month of internet, only having 3G wireless and 12GB total per month, thats pretty much all of it right there in that patch.

If true can we opt to not download the useless texture patch.

Well good for you. Perhaps you should consider the rest of the world before you make such asinine comments.

Aussie internet sucks even with the best connections you can get.

For me at home this is looking like at least 4 hours, at my work, on a good day I'll make 1.5 Mb/s so about 3 days, probably wont even bother to be honest, will copy the files onto a stick from home and over write them manually then run the repair tool.

Considering I won't be able to run these textures on either computer I could really care less. I think they should split them up over a few patches or if possible give people an option.

For those of us not lucky enough to have such robust internet, it will likely take me a few hours.

I think what's a bigger factor with a lot of the older 'mechs is that the texture styling had a lot more wear and fading to it. So the colours don't shine through as well, which just makes it look even worse. I won't lie, I probably preferred that style over the glossy things we have now, but certainly a texture upgrade will help a lot.

Glad i am not in the old days of a 14.4 MB playing by the hour... :P

darn big patch, to bad i play at settings that i won't notice anything.. Perhaps in a few years when i update again.. Till now, the settings and FPS will have to do. Visuals are not bad, and the game runs pretty well.. so no complaints, Patcher going to work over time that day..

[some paradoxical statement about PGI improving unimportant things instead of systematically improving the game]

I know it's a stupidly minor thing, but the OCD in me won't let it go.

For internet speeds, you're gonna want to use the small b there. Mbps, not MBps. Source: I work for an ISP, and if you want to check for yourself go look at your bill/statement/online ads/comcast.com/att.com or whatnot. They all sell internet speed at the Mbps level, never at MBps (because that number would look smaller by comparison, and people don't like small numbers. True story).

So, with a 100 Mbps connection (Megabit per second, not MegaByte) you're essentially pulling 12 Megs (12 MegaBytes) every second. A little over. 12 and a half.

6,000 MB (super rough rounding for GB, I know its 1024 x 6 for the even more less-rough number) divided by 12.5 MB per second is 480 seconds. Assuming ZERO other traffic utilizing your pipe, you're looking at 8 minutes to download.

8 minutes to download a 6 gig file with a 100 megabit connection.

Edit: and yes, I'm AMAZING at parties.

Edit 2: ALSO ALSO, I'm assuming the OP meant 6 GB, and not 6 Gb. Because 6Gb is only 750 megs or so. 750 MB. Damn those small and uppercase B's! Damn them to hell!

If you use steam, if you use default who knows who long it will take probably a couple hours.

Thanks for the clarification.

So my work connection which averages about 1Mb/s or 125k MB will take about 136 hours or 5.6 days. Fantastic. Definitely stick with plan A which is bring it in on a stick from home.

And before anyone says get a better connection, believe me we have tried but this stupid NBN scheme has put a halt on any and all works until it comes to your area. Please select your NBN lottery ticket as it will be drawn sometime in the next 5-10 years. The real irony for me in there is an NBN depot less than 500m from where we are but there is no plan to install it in this area until who knows when. Some bureaucrat somewhere obviously thinks the internet is of no use in an industrial area. Little does that petty little person know about the real world, I fear.

Yeah, a 1 Mb/s connection is pretty slow. DSL speeds outstrip that for the most part.
