Tweet from Russ. I plan on changing over to steam to help increase the download speeds.

Well steam is a lot more stable than standalone MWO install.. zero crashes since steam install.
And yes patching speed is fast.

"your welcome" -PGI.

other F2P games allow options. WoT has it so you can either have the cruddy textures or the prettier ones.

WoT doesn't download them all? I've never heard of that in a game.

Ignoring high res texture packs (this isn't, we already have mechs at 2k textures) games traditionally include all the textures in the download, and you choose which you want to use. That's what's happening here: texture settings will determine which resolution is used.

There is no way to skip this pointless download. Thats the problem.

That's my problem with it. It'll take forever on my slow "broadband" and I get nothing in return since my 2012 computer can't handle this game on high res anyway (thanks, AMD and PGI!) Long story short, most of this patch will be utterly pointless for me and probably for a decent chunk of the community. The super-high res texture should be an optional download. I don't mind getting all the mechs to "medium res" or at least consistent, but I don't need and can't use the high-res ones anyway.

I also can't wait to see the bugs resulting from this monster download. What a joke.

Yes, because those 6GB will only contain lines of code... Oh and 6GB? Will take around 10min to download. Welcome to 2016.

Skins are pretty much aokay, and I don't think there is much game change coming that day, so at most it would be 6GB of glitch.

dunno, mechs already look good to me, wonder how the Atlas death head will look like with the 2k textures.

So weird. Since steam I've had more crashes for no reason (always generate a report to send to them[PGI]) since closed beta.

It makes me mad, as the system I am on is brand spanking new. Nothing but the best.

Weird indeed because its not just me, same observation from everyone in my unit who plays through steam.

its not even new skins. They make them.in 4k, then shrink them to 2/1/0.5 for the client/display settings. Zero new content, though we never saw many before.

may already have them, need to check Lordred's spreadsheet.

Currently, mechs use 0.5k, 1k, and 2k textures (/rgb/diffuse maps/etc), but it's inconsistent. Some mechs are all 2k, others... Not.

I find this is highly visible with the hotrod paint: put it on some mechs, and the flames are slick and smooth. Put it on others? Pixels, pixels everywhere!

gonna start the patching before I head out for work and check back 10 hours later.

Either that or go over steam and select autoupdate. it works for other games but Im not sure about MWO/Steam if this function works... and confirmation form others if the Steam autoupdate function works for MWO?

It does.

strength and age of system is unrelated to crashes. You don't end up with more crashes because you've got dated hardware, just lower fps. Unless you're not meeting minimum requirements anyways.

A more diplomatic solution would probably to have been to cut the deployment up into smaller pieces, but regardless it'll be over soon and back to business as usual.

And just think, y'all will have some nice textures to look forward to when you do eventually upgrade..
