As at Kaetetoa,
C. P.,
14-7-'12

Dear friend,

Friends have been urging me to post to you for the sake of Battletech fans. But I have resisted their request, because of the feeling that any post from me would be an impertinence. Something tells me that I must not calculate and that I must make my appeal for whatever it may be worth.

It is quite clear that you are today the one person in theses forums who can prevent a flame war which may reduce Battlech fandom to a savage state. Must you pay that price for an object however worthy it may appear to you to be? Will you listen to the appeal of one who has deliberately shunned the method of forum war not without considerable success? Any way I anticipate your forgiveness, if I have erred in writing to you.

I remain,

Your sincere friend

******* Ken

False. Most of them know how magnets and rainbows work.

This is the definition of your standard Goon (which is kind of a misnomer).

Magnificent Bast*rd
There's a certain type of character that defies such definitions as hero or villain, good or evil, friend or enemy. Love him or loathe him, you have to admire him. And at the end of the day, there's only one thing we can call him... a Magnificent Bast*rd.

The Magnificent Bast*rd is intelligent, capable, supremely competent, and always in control. He can be playing everyone from both ends, or making it up as he goes along with such consummate skill he gets away with it. He might be cynically exploiting all around him for his own ends, or persuading everyone to do everything for him. He might be a lying sneaky bast*rd playing everyone for his own selfish ends, but he goes about it with such breathtaking skill and panache you admire him for it. Above all else, what defines a Magnificent Bast*rd is his ability to evoke not just amazement, but grudging admiration, from friend, foe and audience alike.

See page 1 of this thread. I was literally told exactly that by someone. I am ruining their 20 years of Serious Battletech Buisness.

Well, I've never really had contact with you since I never played Eve or WoT. (or competetive gaming in itself)

But to be qutie hoenst, from what I've seen so far, you guys aren't on my good side. And the fact that yo ufeel the need to create this thread speaks for itself, doesn't it?

Just remember: What you call having fun could ruin the game for other people. Just because you don't take this game that seriously (maybe because you are new to BT Lore?), doesn't mean everybody has to do that. Many peopel here have played the MW games for decades, knwo the TT, read the novels palyed the P&P and so on. For them, this is mor than just "a game" but somethign that has contributed greatly to their live the past 20 years or so.
And this is where the problem with "you goons" start: You're just completely on the other side of the river. And by mocking these people with "Internet Robots is Seriousness Business" you really don't make it better.

Well, my two cents.

This DESPITE the fact that I too played Battletech, I too still have my miniatures and rule books and Tech Manuals, and that I too had read the novels.

I just don't take it so god damned seriously like its a religion or something. Its a GAME. A game to be played to have FUN.

Faenwulf is a cute name. The kind I'd give my daughter. If she was premature. And a midget.
