Saw one of these on Polar Highland once in my PPC Warhammer. We faced each other at 600m. Since it moved forward the same speed as me back peddling, you can guess what happened. Posted Image

That was a dumb KGC pilot then..... PH has so many places to hide, and my KGC build is an ambush predator....

Personally aim for the right torso first if I see an AC20 there. Taking out the right torso remove 2/3 of an Atlas's firepower. Even a crit hit on that huge AC20 will knock it down by half. Then, just keep outside of 300m and pick it off at leisure. That's my go-to tactic especially if the Atlas got mates around - killing it off take much longer than just disarming it.

i've recently learnt to shoot brawler atlases on the missile torso instead. ac20 takes a fairly long time to reload and needs a good aim. but the srm barrage though, they batter up your armor so fast the followup ac20 shell would plough a hole through your mech. that dreadful moment when i turn a corner in bog and find myself starting at an atlas 100m away, in a centurion. not even the my fully armored shield arm could buy me enough time to back the f outta that corner

the sad thing about atlas though, is the big skull face. torso twist to the side? it's okay, i'll just shoot your face for CT damage.

but all in all, an atlas is a great asset to the team when played properly.

Atlas is a beast. The problem is most people charge into the fray in the open trying to get within 300m range and get wrecked before they even get close.

The smart pilots use Atlas like a thug hiding in the alley corner ready to clubber you from outta no where. The dumb ones banzai from 600m and lose that right torso right away. Or try to boat LRM from the back line with just 2 LLs as backup and get wrecked by a 4MG Locust. Posted Image

There are no bad mechs in MWO, just terrible pilots.

That's why I prefer ECM thug Atlas. It's like the Spanish Inquisition, but with a jackhammer instead of a comfy chair :D

Like poor man's LRM stun lock?
You can get the same effect by chain firing the 10+5 combo.
Which I sometime do as indirect suppression fire.

I have my BH running 4x LPL, 2x MPL, XL 400 and 21 DHS.
It was a (relatively) fast assault energy brawler, before the Executioner D arrive.
Also the RS with 4xLL and ALRM10+5, STD 350 and 20DHS.

Having a LRM 5 and 10 removes the ability to have 3 SRM 4 I'd rather take a lone LRM-15 then a 10 and a 5 unless I need to. I need all the medium to close range firepower I can get. What with all those laser vomit click and shoot builds.

As annoying as it is to have my RT focused down almost every match (I twist of course but good pilots just hold their fire until I do my next salvo)....if I'm in my AS7-S I smirk a bit because most of my firepower is actually in the LT with those 4 SRM racks.

Used to swear by my D-DC but in T2 LRMs are much less common.

It wasn't meant to demean the OP, but to point out the fact that in lower tiers you can make pretty much any mech work.

I still see Atlases in Tier 1. They're a gamble because of map voting, but when the situation is right I've seen them rip shet apart.

And yeah, please no one say Atlai. Or octopi. Those are made up words.

Yeah!
Octopi was made up under false pretenses!

Plural of Octopus should be Octopodes! You know? Because "octopus" comes from ancient Greek, where the plural form of it is "octopodes'

"Octopuses" is a correct and perfectly fine English pluralization though.
Though nowadays "octopi" is also accepted, but i still prefer the other options!

Ok so im a really average player, probably slightly below average. Have played this on and off for years now and am still in teir 4. I had that special atlas with the 30% cbill boost that i got for supporting the game for a while and decided to give it a whirl. Im running 4x mlas 2 x srm 6 and an ac 20.

Holy crap ive played it 5 times now and have done really well with it. Last game last night i broke 1100 for the first time. Why are people so down on the atlas? It seems to be doing me proud.

Id post a pic to prove it but cant figure out how as im on me phone lol

Fuck1n' right man! Not only is the Atlas a beast it looks cool as 5hit Posted Image

Keep it up <o

My build with AS7-S

LRM10 can make them waste time looking for cover until I move into brawl range at the same time it butters their armor a bit.
It also can be used to support team from afar doing some damage at least.

Too bad the AC20 pops soo fast after the RT is breached.

The Atlas was named after Atlas, a Titan cursed to bear the weight of the sky but otherwise known for strength and endurance. There is only one Atlas so we cannot derive a proper plural from it. However there is another object named after Atlas...and that is an atlas (map). There already exists a plural for this term and that is "Atlases" it is in common usage at this time.

Therefore we can safely come to the conclusion that when you turn the corner and come face to face with more than one Atlas, before you crap your pants you should shout over comms you have spotted 2, or 3, or 12 Atlases....anything else would just confuse your team and almost certainly result in a crushing defeat.
