I am fairly new with this game and I have 18 million cbills from graduating from Cadet 25.

what would you suggest I go with? I tried both and I seem to score the same on both mechs

I would say Timberwolf. Ebon Jag is a good weapons boat, but it doesn't have the guts to survive on the front line.

Yeah Timberwolf for sure, timby can boat too, and it has more torso twist, manoeuvrability, and can take more of a beating.

EBJ is good for sniper builds, but it struggles up close despite the plentiful hardpoints. I think the timby also promotes a more aggressive playstyle, which is probably better to learn early on in MWO.

Get Timberwolf-A and Timberwolf-S as your first two Timbies. Third one can be whatever, though I prefer Prime.

Madcat.

It has more armor and it can be equipped with Jump Jets.

Timber, better hitboxes, better surviveability, equivalent firepower +JJ's. *(and arm actuators)

Ebonjag might be able to pack a tiny little bit more firepower, but with long duration lasers, you end up staring alot, and its CT is easily focused no matter which direction you're facing.

Ebonjag does have the advantage on weight, and fits into a CW dropdeck leaving you enough for an Assault.

And you still have the standard laser vomit.

Dont run with 4 back armor if your a new player tho.

Congrats to your right choice. Many BattleTech legends such as Khan Vladimir Ward, Khan Phelan Kell or Capain Stacy Church rode Madcat.

It depends on what you want to do with the 'Mech and what type of loadout you prefer. Lasers? SRMs? LRMs? UACs? Mixed loadout?

Then there is the upcoming change of power draw of 'Mech weapons, so the existing loadouts may not work anymore

Timber offers you more to play with and with a tighter profile, Jaguars a bit of a wideboy, its like taking a timber and stamping on it a couple times, how I view the Ebon, a squished Timber!

Same here, love my Ebon Jag. The Timberwolf just seems bulky to me. It is however the better brawler for sure, and can't beat having jumpjets.

Be a hipster like me and play the EBJ. Style over substance.

EBJ has a smaller profile and is harder to hit, but the Timby has better armor and can mount JJ. Just stay away from that A left torso though-- people seem to like the extra pew-pew, but it screams 'shoot me' and it's vulnerable from every angle.

My favourite Madcat is the C(S) with 2x UAC10s and 3x med lasers.
