Once upon a time, prior to the Phoenix pack, if you elite 1 variant of a given chassis you automatically elite all the variants that you have basic on. But, that is along time ago and since I have come back to the game this month from a 3 year absence I have found that this was no longer the case after finishing elite on my newly bought timber wolf prime, a shame really.

must have been more than a year before Project Phoenix, during early closed beta, because I came in August 2012, late in closed beta, and since I have been playing Elite Skills have never autocompleted on variants you had not earned them on, with the frequent resets during closed beta a shortcut to completing the skills would have made sense.

Well when I was made elite for my one of my cataphract, the Murments, i was given elite for all the variants I ever owned including 1 I sold off prior.

Ilya Muromets wasn't around until open beta. I started in November, 2012. Ilya Muromets came along well after I did. At that time, IIRC, there was exactly ONE hero mech--Yen Lo Wang, and it was kind of a big deal (called Pay-to-Win back then, as it was the ONE CN9 variant on which you could mount an AC/20, the others having lower arm actuators to limit the available critical space). I remember Ilya very well, as he was the first hero mech I bought (and I wish I had held on to him, but I'm just not that bright some times).
Not saying that what you describe, Scaramanga Goldgun, hasn't happened. But if it HAS, it is anomalous and most likely represents a BUG/GLITCH. A happy one, sure. But a mistake, nonetheless. In the last well-over-3-years, I've never heard of this happening. Across SO many mechs I've owned, it's never happened to me for certain.
