Currently match scores do not reflect any significant effort toward match goals as priority. I have died so many times securing the win per the match goals only to find my match score to reflect only failure and not rewards for my sacrifice. Emphasis is always only on kills and damage. This happens constantly in tier 5. Cant move up but always down or even. This kills new player incentives. I love the game but I am tired as being rated as nothing when I am making a difference. I don't think people realize you can do top damage but be the cause for the teams defeat. but this is what is rewarded.
Match Score Should Reflect Match Goals

They only time I move upwards on Tier 5 is when I bring a damage boat and ignore the conquest/domination/assault goals beyond keeping the other team from winning before I can deal damage. Yesterday I did a mission on frozen city, 4 killing blows, 2 kill assists, 8 components destroyd, only about 240ish damage done though, 753 experience points... match score was like 254. But I can killing blow nothing myself and throw out 700 damage and get a huge experience award and a higher match score.

you'll be much happier if you accept that MWO modes are all deathmatches with side objectives. Except Skirmish, that's just deathmatch

I agree.
I have had way to many conquest matches (before and after patch) where i would cap +3 points (often alone and as the only capper on my team)... kill a couple of (enemy) mechs in the process... just to end up getting the lowest matchscore on my team. Even in the few cases where some of my actions was deceive for us winning the match.
I fully support the iterative process of small changes to avoid big errors. But i would also really like to hear some kind of official statement claiming that they are going to "revise" the matchscore calculations at some point. Very much looking forward to the next townhall

yes the matchscore (-> rewards) makes people go for damage
possible rewards:
possible rewards:
- reward for sharing information: hold lock on targets that friendly mechs target -> cbills and exp per mech per second
- reward for killing mech: deal X% of damage that was required to kill the mech -> get X% cbills and exp of the mechs worth as reward
- reward for salvage: mech was killed with Y% remaining -> get X% of Y as a cbill and exp reward for your contribution (=> get super reward for headshot on 100% mech)
- reward for taking damage for your team: take damage from a mech that is under fire by your team -> get cbills and exp for every point of damage
- reward for distracting the enemy: make enemy turn his back to your team (has you in field of view) -> cbills and exp rewarded every second, bonus if the enemy takes damage or locks you
- reward for preventing damage: shoot down missiles -> get cbills
- reward for saving an ally: if the enemy was firing on your ally and then the ally is not taking the damage anymore and you get the reward for taking damage for your team or distracting the enemy or killing the mech -> get cbills and exp reward for saving your ally

Thank you all for the input, I just hope PGI will take notice and possibly make some constructive changes.

I 100% agree with all the post in this thread. There should be more reward for completing objectives and for team support. I can clearly remember being scolded by the other members of one of my QP PUG teams for capping the enemy base in Assault. They all just wanted to farm damage.
The game modes have been just slightly different variations of skirmish. I hope the upcoming revisions will change that and force more playing of the modes but in order to get people to buy into that there must be changes to the scoring that rewards playing the objectives.
I guess we will see soon.
