Team Kill/team Damage Penalty

As for chronic TKers, the system as it stands removes them from play.
The problem illustrated in this thread is: the children don't want to be lumped with the chronic TKers.
I say, grow up.

Ahem! What about the other side of the coin? What about the people who intentionally get into an already existing line of fire? Are they at zero fault? Do they have a god-given right to step into ongoing fire?

Team players don't shoot team mates.
Accidents happen however. No reason to get bent about it.

Oh, did you just say someone walking into someone else's line of fire is "accidental", but someone hitting a player who walked into the line of fire is "intentional"?

Similarly, allowing someone to cross your line of fire is normal. Hitting them with an errant shot is accidental.
Intentionally firing through them because you want to secure the kill is not team play, and is most certainly not accidental.
That is why there is a threshold of damage one needs to surpass in order to earn a "time-out" penalty in the game.
Accidents will happen. An errant shot or two here and there. But drilling through a teammate who "dissed" you in some way is intentionally being an ***, and therefore punished.
The system works.

Does PGI realize that the match matching queues will become so slow that people will have trouble finding games. People in this video game couldn't hit the broad side of a barn if they tried. Even if the team damage isn't intentional. I've been in 100's of games where my back had been blown out or other parts of my mech due to people not knowing how to aim. PGI why don't you stop being care bare Canadians and turn off team damage just like any other respectable game if it such a problem. Team damage/Team killing is in the game to purge the people from the game so you don't get penalized by the peoples shortcomings and can enjoy the game. Like not advancing or moving their legs at all because they are to afraid to chip their paint on their mech. Hopefully this has been an eye opening post for you and possibly change your care bear ways. Have a nice day.
Dude, if you're triggering the penalty, then you really messed up. I've only had a single penalty slow down my matches in the past two weeks, and it was last night. It only held us up for a few seconds and then we dropped again and never had another one.
Folks who trigger the penalty frequently are either extremely unlucky or flat out stupid. It's actually really easy to avoid the penalty.

Note, I used the word persistent. I'm not speaking of the accidents, the occasional walking into a line of fire, or a moment of poor awareness leading to some friendly hits. I'm talking about marking idiots and jerks who are consistently hitting, and often killing, teammates. For that ilk, clearly a few minutes or seconds penalty is not a sufficient learning tool. More needs to be done (*).
Disagree as you will, but unless you can refute the basic premise (*), I'd ask that you at least suggest an alternate improvement to the system.
(1) Some people might thrill to see an enemy tk'er, I believe they should not be in the system (as much), and I for one would purposefully target tk'ers if it were possible. Some of the least satisfying matches I've had were a while back where some jerk was intentionally killing as many of his own team as possible. Yes, we were winning (when he didn't get on our team) but it was not a happy win.

Although some may/not be as accidental as others...
I know people (including myself) appreciate hearing others say "sorry" or "oh @#$%@ dude, my bad" ect ...as this simple response holds the strange power (imo) of deflating the "sudden heated reproach" as it even pertains to real life... we all have our days on both sides that coin, and although not everyone maybe on a mic, I feel that this is an issue we seem to be avoiding.
Now I will go back on a previous statement.. in that some scouts/fast movers may be fleeing from an unexpected *stampede-o-mechs* and may not find any other immediate avenue of escape, other then running through the "busy street". I have infact been guilty of the same in that my decision earns me these "said blastings" by using this route. It happens the game gets hektic...I even try to say "its my bad" when people appol. also fact gotta work not staying up so late...

Sure enough I did find 3 enemy 'mechs at the top, and they're all pot shotting me, I tried backing up to not take concentrated fire (because OF COURSE, no one else is going around me or trying to take top) and check my mini map to see these goddamned Sand People were in a line directly behind me. I stated in VOIP, "Hey we're storm trooping 'mech warriors, not sand people, we don't walk single file, please get out of my *** so I can back up."
Well, more enemies start coming up, and I'm taking a BUNCH of fire to the face, and there is still ONE jackhole directly behind me that has yet to move. So I turned 90 degrees, and scrunched my way past that f'ing pillar at the top of the ramp, fell (taking a bit of leg damage) and turned and touched the nitwit with an ER Large. Not a full burn mind you just a quick touch, to iterate the point of "Hey, don't be douche..."
I then proceed to cross all the way over to the opposite side, thinking he can have that spot if he wants. I get out, proceed to fire on enemies, and eventually need to back up, but can't.
That SAME jackass is wedged up in my *** again, and I got four or five enemies blasting away at me. So I turn and full burn his *** twice to, to get him out of my way, at this point I'm hoping he fires back to TK me but he runs off, and I kill off an enemy and end up dying due to all the damage I wasn't able to avoid because of this jackass.
So I go observe the little twerp and what's he doing? He ran back to our team's spawn point and is in the process of head shotting an AFK/Disco team mate's Atlas, THEN he runs off to hide near the base, where he sits and does nothing for the almost the entirety of the match until another team mate has pretty much almost killed one 'mech defending our base. At that point this moron goes in for a quick kill steal and proceeds to, instead, die himself.
Yeah, sometimes some people deserve to be TK'd.

I've had pilots purposely run up behind me blocking my escape attempting to "shoot over me"? only to alpha me in the back destroy my mech and cry out that its MY fault on the mic (im firing downrange shouldnt have to worry behind me), and they are some sort of ?better player? for what? using me as a shield? being too afraid to step up first and feeling "holier then thou"? since now that they see you have more *initiative* then they? I live in the states and this mostly happens in the wee hours of the morning of course I could simply uncheck euro servers and not worry about it again (maybe just bad dice roll on certian "players" in particular).

Last night, I had not 1 but 2 20 minute penalties because of team mates rushing into my Arty strikes. Even after I say, I'm dropping an Arty, glad to see folks rush in.
And the second arty penalty, I did the equivalent of around 80 Team Damage, but because we lost the match 2-12 I'm sure the 'mystery' Penalty was reached.
All in all, Normally I'm not upset with being hit with a 5 minute penalty for some team damage, but to get hit twice in a 4 hour time period...not fun

My favorite topic to go into about team damage is what I like to call "LASER Limbo" a game of limbo that NOBODY EVER WINS especially with the bogusly extended duration clan lasers. Think you can win *fires heavy large laser* Go under that.
