Just stepped through in the debugger to doublecheck and everything seems to work as intended - all the 'Mechs are spawned powered down on re-init and don't respawn for at least 60 seconds after death.

All the BZ 'Mechs power-up when you enter the zone and don't show up on your radar until the power up is complete.... and they're in line of sight, and they're in front of you. That may be why they appear to spawn when you enter the BZ.

Ahhh... perhaps that's it. The AI is really, really dumb and keeps firing (if it can see you) until it overheats and shuts down. That takes it off your radar until it cools and powers up again. You may be getting ambushed by one of these.

And it's 12 v 1 in the BattleZone, you're really naked there..... hmm.. try throwing up a UAV or use an active probe and see if it thinks they're respawns (AI's won't target your UAV)

Interesting, I might need ot throw up a UAV, cuz I never even get anything until I get to a certain point, then they poof and appear out of thin air in all their given spots, but never where I am looking, always behind me or off to the side.

As for the FPS issues, yeah, for me, its a River City thing. I get great FPS on other maps. I played 5 games today, Crimson Strait, Polar, Bog, Frozen City, all had fantastic FPS, game ran smooth as a whistle. River City just doesnt run for crap for me.

The poof is probably due to the simultaneous powerup on entering the BZ - but anything out of your view isn't going to show up on your minimap until you turn to face them.

I suspect the poor performance in River City stems from the fact it uses a copy of the very first incarnation of the new map - it never got any of the performance related care-and-feeding that the multiplayer map would have gotten - that and all the stuff I crammed into it.

I'd definitely turn down the 'particles' setting, or maybe even turn it off altogether. That alone can do wonders. Everywhere you see some kind of smoke or other transluscent effect, you have particles (and I'm now reminded of a scene from Season 1 of Wilfred). There's a LOT of that going on in Rivet City. Everywhere you have smoke rising from a fire. All of those pillars of white-ish light over the event start points. That all drags down FPS, even on some higher-end systems. I can regularly run the game at >60 FPS on VERY HIGH on most any map with all the LRMs in the world, but Rivet City (Academy more so than regular) will bog me down to 25-35 FPS depending on which direction I'm looking and where I am.

I run primarily medium settings, with I think textures on high. No issues at all in a normal game, at least not until I get rocked by a volley of Autocannons or something, then I get stutters, but for the most part, it runs decently well.

Maybe Forsey will give River City a performance pass. I actually get terrible performance in River City MP as well.....I literally cant play on RC MP.

If for no purpose other than just satisfying our curiosity, give the particles thing (and maybe shadows too) a try, and see what it does for you. Say, just in the Academy. Please? :)

Do what? put them down to low? Shadows are on low. I turn shadows off always in every game. I see no use for them, other then to make the game overly dark for no good reason.

Yes, low will turn shadows off. In MWO, I leave shadows on medium even on my lower end machine. There have been MANY times when the shadow of a mech hiding behind a corner in some of the more urban parts of Crimson Strait or River City has given me the warning to not get completely blindsided by my opponent.
