The best way to fix LRMs is to change their mechanics and give them the niche they were meant for. Let players guide the missiles manually behind cover to force enemies out of cover although without dealing strong focused damage.

They were meant for? Hmm in the process of re-reading every pre Dark Age BT book published. You would be shocked at how many of the lore gods of BT load LRMs, both IS and Clan.

There is no reason why they shouldnt be competitive for those that want to use them. They might need to require a different skill (notice I didnt say some skill) to use like understanding your terrain completely, etc.

That might be because the focused damage of Alpha strikes doesnt exist in the BT universe and I have seen like 1 back-to-back alpha strike in the 30+ books I have re-read in the last 3 months. Frankly this game would be more fun IMHO if it was a little more like the books rather than Call of Duty Clan Style.

It's not about the terrain or alpha strikes or whatever that makes LRMs really bad with good players on the enemy team.
  • Travel time makes it so enemies can easily poke and shoot you before the LRMs even reach them
  • They are too easily negated via equipment but also via modules and simple cover usage
  • The damage is too spread out so most of it just ends up being inconsequential to killing an enemy
  • All the arguments about suppression are equally or more effective when applied to other weapons
  • They have quite a bit less range than the other sniper weapons in the game
  • Using LRMs for indirect fire makes it so you don't share your armor with the rest of the team
  • They have no use in a push since they do no to negligible damage under 180m. Other sniper weapons at least still work
LRMs in the end have no niche currently that they excel at.

Frankly I don't care if the combat is at all like it is in the novels (which frankly aren't...the greatest written things ever).

AMS??? like for realz? Every whiny LRM hate thread never takes an AMS. The more people that use AMS the better the protection... so everyone just use AMS and LRMs will not be such a big deal. the chain fire LRM5s get eaten up by 2-3 AMS working together. Maybe since the archer has been released the OP should try to adapt to the new meta.

To be fair, Lurms actually aren't all that fun right now from the shooter's perspective. The thread maker is wrong about Lurms being OP, but that's besides the point.

It just really isn't that satisfying to use a weapon system that depends on my teammates and enemies just as much as it depends on me,

That I do agree with.

and also a weapon system that controls itself rather than being controlled by the user (can't aim at specific hitboxes to put damage where I want it).

I wouldn't want that much control. I see LRM's as "long range" weapons designed to grind down the armour on the target before the firer gets in closer to do the "killing shots" with other weapon systems.

And then the people who do use AMS complain that it should be a hard counter because they are still being hit by a few missiles.
