I searched the internet today for any articles on MechWarrior Online from PC gamming sites to forums and I only found a few recent references to the game.

Even the steam forums are dead on MWO?

It seems PGI has given up on making new players and retaining them its been almost 4 years and we as the last remaining players possibly 10,000 or less still do not have a true accurate player count to determine how well or not well the game is.

Does anyone have any new information on player count ? I know they have twitard-Facecrack-rededit-etc. but there is not much new news from those sites ether.

You would think PGI would post on the PC Gamming sites once in a blue moon to let gamers know the game is still alive?

I agree advertising is not PGI's strength.

On the other hand I see TV ads for F2P games which are 1000x more crap than MWO could ever be on non-stop rotation.

Agreed, PGI could definitely benefit from some ads on TV for MWO.. Of course.. Technically MWO isn't really a "Finished" game so they might be holding out til the game is more or less where they want it. Essentially we are playing a Beta even though we're technically out of Beta.

As for those FTP games.. yes.. those ads try to make those games look good.. I even tried quite a few.. only to learn that they were so horribly done that I don't know why they even bothered to waste the money on making a commercial.

I think your right only a few games the commercials work for like World Of Tanks-World Of Warships which I play both games but all the new MMO games are basic copy's of each other.

The maps just rotate and battle after battle its just rinse and repeat over and over again some do have leader boards and tournaments that make them more popular.

MechWarrior reboot could have been huge with just a few more things added to the game like A new MSN gamming zone lobby with Social chat and launchers for League play. Or a US VS the World with special built (US Army mechs) VS all the worlds special Army mechs ETC.

See, this is another argument for why MWO could have profited from major expansions instead of gradually trickling out new content. They should do like many other MMO-type games and have major releases once or twice a year, and make it a big deal by:
  • Short bursts of advertisement
  • New, professional trailers for each major release
  • Big, lore-based events to mark each major release
  • Pushing the timeline forward
  • Resetting the CW map, but with subtle changes to indicate the progress from the previous period since the last major release.
Controversial idea:
  • New, low budget surprise mech packs being made available for sale. Not released 6 months into the future, but made available to play the second they're available on sale. Ideally, this should be new variants of existing mechs, which would be interesting to both old and new players. For example, pay $20 to get a brand new variant of the Jenner, the Griffin, the Black Knight and the Victor for Inner Sphere players, or $20 to get a brand new variant of the Adder, Shadow Cat, Hellbringer and Warhawk for Clan players. New variants are cheap and easy to make, and you could take advantage of a temporary surge in activity and interest as both new and old players are flooding to the website.

I could not agree more on this but heck I waited 10+ years for a new MechWarrior game and I still after 4 years I cant chill in a lobby system and chat with MWO players play in private leagues like we had in PC mechwarrior4 and still cannot play a PVE mission campaign.

I really though by now we would have all the MechWarrior2- MechWarrior4 mission campaigns to play as DLC content.
I would have loved to go back im MWO mechs and play all the old MW2-MW4 campaigns.

Is it time for another one of these threads again? We've had these for about 4 years now.

I think PGI must have a necromancer on staff, because MWO's been dead for years and it still keeps going. :)

You have to admit it would have been fun to play .Posted Image and the U.S> does have real life mechs in testing but there more like Elementals.

No but for 4 years the player base has been in decline and it would be nice to have a real player counter and see a PGI plan for gaining and retaining new players?

When we had a counter, the most players I ever saw online at once was around 2500. If that number had been declining for 4 years, I can't imagine I'd ever find a game, especially with the split servers we have now.

I spend more time with Football Manager 2016 than MWO - i hate voting, i hate the era of clantech that broke Battletech/Mechwarrior, i hate a couple of gamemechanics, etc. and as my hate is pretty close to my likes amount i dont play much.

I dont play to Level Up ******* Mechs.

It has already been said: Advertising.

An advert campaign would rejuvenate the game with renewed vigor and bring in the desired numbers.

I think it's a mostly BT fan based game. That is a good thing. I want BT reality (or as close as we can get), not arcade reality. If you open the floodgates to a the world, you will get the world's problem.

Here's a perfect example of how bad it could be:

Battlefield used to be pretty small potatoes compared to CoD. It was a much more realistic game and required a tactical awareness that wasn't found anywhere else. People had to work as a team to get the job done, much like MWO. Then came the big Christmas advertising push to attract the CoD players. It worked perfectly and tactical playstyle completely tanked, turning it into a twitch shooter with people running around like a bunch of chickens. Common sense and thought took a backseat to muscle spasms.

Honestly, I'd say they're more afraid of attention at this point. There is a long line of negative, public reaction to MWO and advertising seems to dig those bones up with gusto.

Sorry my friend but MWO is not BT and its not MechWarrior.

BT was all the book and lore combined with all the MechWarrio2-MechWarrio4 mission play in the old PC games.
MechWarrior was the MSN gamming zone/chat social and private Leagues with thousands of maps and multiplayer choices from stock to C1 lasers to pure ballistic battles and lrm battles.

Trust me I would have liked MWO to be both the BT universe and the MechWarrior universe but we got was WOT with mech skins.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This problem could have been avoided by PGI/IGP by not destroying the old player base thinking they could replace it with new kiddies and not bringing the 2 sides together in a better gamming environment.

Maybe this can be fixed and resolved before the game goes BYE BYE?

Where are you getting this 10k number from anyway. Looking at steamspy I get this:
Owners: 636,458 ± 18,370
Players in the last 2 weeks: 41,799 ± 4,712 (6.57%)
Players total: 385,107 ± 14,296 (60.51%)
Peak concurrent players yesterday: 2,013

I have no idea whether these numbers are any closer to reality than the one one you pulled out of thin air. Barring PGI coming out and saying what the numbers actually are though, they make more sense to me than a 10k playerbase.

I was just AVG over MWO'S time on steam the only numbers to work with but 18,000 is not that far from 10,000 if its 18,000 its not great news but its somewhere to try to rebuild the community from.
